Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance,Sacred,Standards. 10 pages. Chicory Music #5370963. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734425).

The Boar's Head Carol
This Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner.

The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.

Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; Noel

This Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in Bb Major and modulates to  C Major for the final chorus

Composed by Ray Thompson. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 21st Century,Chamber,Christmas. 16 pages. RayThompsonMusic #911217. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1322945).

An original composition based on the 12 Days of Christmas, for wind quintet.

The Twelve Days of Christmas is an English Christmas carol. A classic example of a cumulative song, the lyrics detail a series of increasingly numerous gifts given to the speaker by their true love on each of the twelve days of Christmas (the twelve days that make up the Christmas season, starting with Christmas Day).

This is NOT a standard play through of all 12 verses.
It could be a challenge for your audience to sing along to, I suggest you tell them not to try!

I have added/removed/inserted bars of different length, changed the timing of entry for each new day, and generally had fun.
I started the piece in the key of Bb, modulating through C, Db, D and ending in Eb!

I have also added syncopation in parts.

This gives the piece more interest both for the player and the listener!!

The melody is carried by varying members of the quintet at different times.

Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Christmas. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #807733. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1209582).

This is my arrangement of Gustav Holst's arrangement.
It is arranged for wind quintet

The French composer Marin Marais composed the tune as a dance for his opera Alcyone of 1706, with the title Marche pour les Matelots.

The tune was subsequently included in Raoul Auger Feuillet's 1706 Recueil de contredansealong with a longways proper dance, La Matelotte, which Feuillet had himself written to go with the tune.

In 1710 John Essex (d. 1744) published an English translation of Feuillet's work called, For the Further Improvement of Dancing, in which the dance is given as The Female Saylor.

The words were written around 1860 while William Morris, then 26, was working as an apprentice in the office of the architect, Edmund Street, presumably under the persuasion of his fellow students who at that time had a taste for part-song. It became known as the Christmas Carol Masters in This Hall (alternative title: Nowell, Sing We Clear)

Gustav Holst incorporated the carol into his work Three Carols H133 (1916–17) along with Christmas Song: On this Day and I Saw Three Ships. Holst wrote the Three Carols for amateurs singing in his Thaxted festivals.

You can check out my arrangemet of this and other

Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Clyde Grabski. 20th Century,Christmas,Classical,Romantic Period. 49 pages. Diamond Forest Publishing #4832581. Published by Diamond Forest Publishing (A0.943947).

Gustav Holst (1874-1934) was an English composer of Swedish descent. Famous for his orchestral work The Planets, he wrote Christmas Day for his students at an English school to be performed by voices and orchestra during the holiday season. Several familiar Christmas carols are arranged so that two or three may be heard at the same time. The effect of Holst’s polyphonic treatment becomes even more transparent in the instrumentation provided here.

The arrangement by Clyde Grabski is for the standard woodwind quintet, but also includes substitute parts for the Oboe (Clarinet) and Bassoon (Bass Clarinet). Scores for both ensembles are included.
