A suite of five selections from Edvard Grieg's 25 Norwegian Folk Songs and Dances for piano, Op. 71. Although much of Grieg's work is imbued with the flavor of Norwegian folk music, these are actual folk tunes from rural Norway set in his distinctive style, and now freshly painted in the colors of the woodwind quintet. 

The selections offer a range of emotions and colors, from spirited dances to melancholy folk songs: Leaping Dance (Springdans, No. 1), Last Saturday Night (Den siste lørdagskvelden, No. 15), Travel Song (Reiselåt, No. 13), The Horsefly and the Housefly (Kleggen og flugga, No. 17), and Peasant Dance (Stabbelåten, No. 18). This suite makes a delightful concert piece or encore for an advanced woodwind quintet.

This melancholy song of love and loss in the early days of Jewish settlement in Palestine. Hayu Leilot (There were nights) was written by Mordecai Zeira in 1938 to a poem by Yaakov Orland. Though this song is little known outside of Israel today, it is one of my favorites, and I hope will become one of yours as well.

Fifteen Hungarian Peasant Songs, Sz. 71, BB 79 is a collection of short folk melodies arranged for piano by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók. It was composed between 1914 and 1918. In 1933, Bartók adapted and orchestrated parts of the piece as Hungarian Peasant Songs, Sz. 100, BB 107, commonly known by its Hungarian name, Magyar parasztdalok([ˈmÉ’ÉŸÉ’r ˈpÉ’rÉ’stËŒdÉ’lok]).
My arrangement for standard wind quintet is based on the piano music.

The collection consists of fifteen movements, some of which are grouped together. A typical performance lasts 13–15 minutes. The movements in my arrangement are as follows:
