Woodwind quintet - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CMS1612 Composed by Stephen Foster. Arranged by Judith Katz. Score and Parts. 18 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CMS1612. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CMS1612). 9 x 12 in inches.Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair is one of the most enduring, and popular American songs of all times.Characterized as a parlor song, it was written by Stephen Foster, and published by Firth, Pond & Co. of NewYork, in1854.In 1850, Foster married Jane Denny McDowell, whose nickname was Jennie. However, this was an unhappymarriage, short-lived, with numerous conflicts and separations. Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair, was written asperhaps an attempt to win his wife back. To add to his problems, Foster also ran into deep financial difficulties.Jeanie With the Light Brown Hair was virtually unknown during its time. When it was first published, the royaltieson the ten thousand copies sold, earned just $200 for Stephen Foster. To make ends meet, he had to sell the rights toJeanie, as well as other songs. After his death, the rights to Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair reverted back to hiswife and daughter. It would indeed be a pleasant surprise to Stephen Foster, if he only knew what a wide range of artists have adaptedthis song to different genres. Among solo instrumentalists, Jascha Heifitz, and William Primrose have arranged itfor solo violin and viola. The big bands of Gene Krupa, and Glen Miller have recorded it. The great R & B artist,Sam Cooke used it, as well as opera stars, Marilyn Horne and John McCormick, who added it to their concertrepertoire. The song's frequent airplay in the 1940's, led Spike Jones to create a parody, called, I Dream of Jeanie with theLight Blue Jeans. Les Brown in 1941, created a big band song, Joltin' Joe DiMaggio with the line.....We Dream ofJoey With the Light Brown Bat. Even Bugs Bunny got into the act. The 1960 short, From Hare To Heir, featuresBugs singing, I dream of Jeanie, she's a light brown hareMy arrangement, for woodwind quintet is written to capture a lyric, singing style, which I think Foster had in mind.

Small Ensemble Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.748745 Arranged by Lin Yizhi Ernest. 20th Century. Score and parts. 10 pages. Lin Yizhi Ernest #6609931. Published by Lin Yizhi Ernest (A0.748745). Debussy's The Girl with the Flaxen Hair is an endearing piece and a great introduction to the musical world of Debussy. Every piano player would most probably be familiar with this piece, but not necessarily wind players. However, with this arrangement for Wind Quintet, the expressive voices of this piano piece are further explored by the colours of the Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn and Bassoon. The opening solo is deliberately given to the flute, paying homage to another iconic piece of Debussy's, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, which opens with a lower register flute solo starting with the same note Db.Conscious decisions were also made to give the phrases in bars 12-13 and 15-16 with larger melodic spreads to the Clarinet, whose expressive qualities across these ranges suit these phrases particularly well. The revisiting of the theme in bar 28, this time in a higher register, was deliberately given to the Oboe and not the flute (not every high register melodies needs to be assigned to the flute). Oboe's higher registers, when played delicately to the point of almost struggling to hang on to the higher notes, suit the sweetness (tre doux) of the solo passage particularly well. Not to forget the characteristic Debussy harmonies that is fully supported and suited to be powered by the French Horn and Bassoon. These lower voices provide the harmonic engine that powers this unmistakable Debussy sound.Truly, this arrangement is a challenge and masterclass in tone colour for the Wind Quintet that demands a simultaneous homogeneity, as well as balance that brings out the Debussy sound, yet allowing each of the characteristics of the Wind instruments to shine through.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1325401 Composed by Gustav Holst. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Christmas. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #913639. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1325401). Bring Us in Good Ale is a medieval English drinking song celebrating good drink and honoring Our Lady. For the medieval man, convivial drinking was a part of life, and drinks were enjoyed with nearly every meal. The English beverage of choice was ale. In Bring us in Good Ale the singers jocularly excuse themselves from mutton, eggs and pudding and instead stand firm in their call for their favorite drink. As they list all the dishes they refuse, the singers indirectly give thanks for the good season that has led to the plenty they are enjoying.Gustav Holst arranged it for unaccompanied choir as one of his 4 carols Op.34.It is quite short.Arranged here for wind quintet.Bring us in good ale, and bring us in good ale;For our Blessed Lady's sake, bring us in good ale.Bring us in no brown bread, for that is made of bran,Nor bring us in no white bread, there therein is no game; But bring us in good ale.Bring us in no beef, for there is many bones,But bring us in good ale, for that goes down at once; And bring us in good ale.Bring us in no bacon, for that is passing fat,But bring us in good ale, and give us enough of that; And bring us in good ale.Bring us in no mutton, for that is often lean,Nor bring us in no tripes, for they be seldom clean.Bring us in no eggys, for there are many shells,But bring us in good ale, and give us nothing else.Bring us in no butter, for there are many hairs;Nor bring us in no pig's flesh, for that will make us bears.Bring us in no puddings, for therein is all God's good;Nor bring us in no venison, for that is not for our blood; But bring us in good ale.Bring us in no capon's flesh, for that is often dear;Nor bring us in no duck's flesh, for they slobber in the mere; But bring us in good ale. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553198 Composed by Claude Debussy. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Holiday,Standards,Wedding. 26 pages. RayThompsonMusic #7959. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553198). 4 Piano Preludes from Bk.1:  II. Voiles, VI. Des pas sur la neige,  VIII.La fille aux cheveux de lin, XII. Minstrels: arr.wind quintet.  Voiles is a composition by Claude Debussy for solo piano from 1909. It is the second piece in a set of twelve préludes published in 1910. The title of the piece may be translated to English as either veils or sails; both meanings can be connected to the musical structure. Except for some mild, localized chromaticism and a short pentatonic passage, the entire piece uses the whole tone scale. I have taken some liberties with the arpeggios in the 2nd half of the piece and also ignored the grace notes. For something different, try this piece. (Treat the tempo as 4/8 rather than 2/4 i.e. count it in 4. Well worth the challenge! VI. Des pas sur la neige (Footprints in the snow): very atmospheric wintry feel! VIII.La fille aux cheveux de lin (The Girl with the flaxen hair)One of Debussy’s most popular and well known pieces: ideal for that quiet wedding moment.  XII. Minstrels: almost a ragtime feel.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.576676 Composed by George R Poulton. Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Contemporary,Jazz,Romantic Period. 22 pages. David Warin Solomons #55623. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576676). The tune of Aura Lea was originally composed by Englishman George R. Poulton (1828–1867) who migrated to the USA. It has undergone many versions in the past 150 years, including the original Civil War song to words by W. W. Fosdick, subtitled Maid with golden hair, Nora Lee, various glee club arrangements and, eventually, Elvis Presley's Love me Tender. The rhythms here switch from swing-like triplets to plain classical and back and various instruments have a few cheeky side comments from time to time, including chromatics and a development going into more modern-romantic harmonies. The sound sample is an electronic preview. The pdf contains score and parts. A simpler arrangement for choir is also available on this site under the title Nora Lee.
