Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1312131 By Hugh Levey. By Gustav Holst. Arranged by Hugh Levey. 20th Century,Advent,Chamber,Christmas,Religious. 15 pages. Woodwindly.com #901006. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1312131). Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon)In the Bleak Mid-Winter is a popular Christmas Carol which has been set to music by both Gustav Holst and Harold Darke. This wind quintet arrangement is based on the Holst version and combines the composer's beautifully simple harmony with the arranger's counter-melodies and intricate wind writing. Lovely writing for all instruments. An ideal work for Christmas concert programming. This is a through-composed instrumental arrangement that explores the melody and harmonies of the Holst hymn in 3 differently arranged verses. After a short introduction the first verse uses Holst’s original 4-part harmonisation in its beautiful simplicity, with oboe and flute taking turns to play the top line. In verse 2, the French horn presents the tune in a lower register while the bassoon plays a Baroque style ā€˜walking bass’. The flute, oboe, and clarinet weave countermelodies above them, introducing new material for a Pachelbel-like interlude of an ascending sequence - bringing the music to a climax before subsiding into verse 3. Here a slightly ornamented version of the tune returns to the flute and oboe with the new material continuing in the bass line. After another smaller climax we return to the original Holst as the work ends quietly and thoughtfully.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.937282 Composed by Robert Burns and Traditional Scottish. Arranged by Hugh Levey. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish. 26 pages. Woodwindly.com #6451109. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.937282). Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) A great fun and lively arrangement for Wind Quintet.Duration 2 minutes 45 seconds. 28 PagesThis lively set of variations on Robert Burns' The Deil's Awa' Wi' the Exciseman (The devil is away with the tax collector) is sure to entertain in recital, at a Burns Night, St. Andrew's Night or for any occasion where there is a toast to Rabbie or to Scotland. Although Burns wrote the words of the song, he set them to a variation of an existing tune called The Hemp Dresser which dates from the 17th century or earlier. It is a lively jig which is arranged here for Wind Quintet.Ā This wind quintet arrangement begins with oboe and bassoon playing the tune and bass line, almost exactly as they appeared in The Scots Musical Museum, published by James Johnson & Co in six volumes between 1787 and 1803. The other instruments all get the opportunity to play the melodic line in the ensuing 5 verses, as the arrangement gets more complex and fun. The arranger makes great use of the tritone; or devil’s interval as it is often known because of its unsettling presence. However, in this arrangement it merely adds to the fun and excitement.Great fun for all! Ā

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1463516 By Hugh Levey. By John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Hugh Levey. 19th Century,Film/TV,Holiday,March,Patriotic. 48 pages. Woodwindly.com #1042239. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1463516). The Liberty Bell is ideal for any concert programmes that have an American, patriotic, or military focus. In the UK it will be a popular addition to Film & TV based programmes because of the march's use as the theme for Monty Python's Flying Circus.Sousa’s The Liberty Bell (March) for Military Band was published in 1893 and became an immediate hit. It was originally scored for: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, cymbals, bass drum, snare drum, and strings. However, it is often performed today by a standard Military Band, consisting of woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. An abbreviated version of Liberty Bell was used as the theme tune for the British television comedy sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974.This arrangement for Wind Quintet consists of the whole March with its Trio section. The dynamic shaping is based on that used by The President’s Own Band, but the dynamic markings are largely editorial.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.937284 Composed by Scottish Traditional (Burns). Arranged by Hugh Levey. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish,Traditional,Wedding. 24 pages. Woodwindly.com #6493483. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.937284). Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) Duration 2 minutes 35 seconds. 23 Pages This is a fun set of variations on Robert Burns' My Love She's But a Lassie Yet) is sure to entertain in recital, at a Burns Night, St. Andrew's Night or for any occasion where there is a toast to Rabbie or to Scotland.Although Burns wrote the words of the song, he probably set them to a variation of an existing tune called Lady Badinscoth's Reel.Ā This lively arrangement for Wind Quintet starts off with a stately ā€˜classical’ arrangement of My Love She’s But a Lassie Yet, but as it develops the tune combines with another traditional melody, followed by some operatic quotations, and even a five part fugue. It ends with an embellished restatement of the opening. It is great fun for all players. Ā

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1195678 Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Hugh Levey. 19th Century,Chamber,Classical,Romantic Period,Wedding. 18 pages. Woodwindly.com #794855. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1195678). Wind Quintet - Flute, Oboe, Clarinet (for A or Bb), French Horn and Bassoon.Mendelssohn's delightful Spring Song (Frühlingslied) appears in the fifth volume of his Songs Without Words (Lieder ohne Worte), which were published between 1842 and 1844. The Songs Without Words are short, lyrical piano pieces that were intended for the drawing room but also well suited to the recital room. The Spring Song is one of the most well known and has been arranged for various combinations, including an arrangement by the composer for piano duet, and by others for small theatre orchestra and symphony orchestra. This arrangement for wind quintet remains in the original key of A Major, which Mendelssohn probably chose for its bright, Spring-like qualities. The melodic material is shared between all five instruments which helps bring some additional tonal variation and colour to this lovely piece. Duration 2' 31.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.937273 Composed by Traditional, George Ridley. Arranged by Hugh Levey. Folk,Holiday,Multicultural,Traditional,World. 29 pages. Woodwindly.com #6260425. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.937273). Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) Duration - approx. 3 minutesThis is a great fun arrangement of the popular 19th Century music-hall song, The Blaydon Races. The original song tells the story of a group of lads and lassies (men and women) as they take a day trip from the city of Newcastle to the nearby race course in Blaydon. They have mishaps along the way - a wheel falls off and someone gets a broken nose. This instrumental arrangement portrays the jollity of the trip and has some lurching key changes to mimic the bumpy and chaotic journey. This song was written in 1862 but is still sung by the people of the north east of England who treat is as an unofficial local national anthem. It is a sung in bars, at sports matches and is the Regimental Song of TheĀ Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Have fun playing it!
