By Paul McCartney. By Paul McCartney. Arranged by Paul Kirk. Rock. 14 pages. Paul Stephen Kirk #6306663. Published by Paul Stephen Kirk (A0.945714).

Calico Skies is the sixth song on Paul McCartney's 1997 album, Flaming Pie. McCartney had been staying on Long Island when the category-three storm Hurricane Bob that made landfall had hit in August 1991. This made McCartney sit with an acoustic guitar and write what he describes as a gentle love song that becomes a 1960s protest song. The song was co-produced by George Martin and McCartney, being started, finished, and mixed within a single session on 3 September 1992 in Sussex, England. It is the earliest recording on Flaming Pie.

Around the time of the release of the album, McCartney's Wife of nearly 30 years, Linda, was suffering from breast cancer and sadly passed away 7 months later. The music video also portrays this with shots of the two of them together in her last days. Put simply, the song, lyrics, melody are for her and trying to tell the story of how the two of them were destined to love each other forever.

The Fool on the Hill is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 EP and album Magical Mystery Tour.

It was written and sung by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. The lyrics describe the titular fool, a solitary figure who is not understood by others, but is actually wise.
McCartney said the idea for the song was inspired by the Dutch design collective the Fool, who derived their name from the tarot card of the same name, and possibly by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

The song's segment in the Magical Mystery Tour television film was shot separately from the rest of the film and without the other Beatles' knowledge. Accompanied by a professional cameraman, McCartney filmed the scene near Nice in France.
In 1968, Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66 recorded a cover version of the song that reached the top ten in the US.
By the late 1970s, The Fool on the Hill was one of McCartney's most widely recorded ballads.
A solo demo and an outtake of the song were included on the Beatles' 1996 compilation album Anthology 2.

Arranged for standard wind quintet, the melody is taken first by the oboe, and then by the flute.

Interesting parts for horn, clarinet and bassoon.

Arranged standard wind quintet.

Taken from the album The Beatles known as the White Album.

It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney, and performed as a solo piece by McCartney with solo acoustic guitar.

McCartney explained on Chaos and Creation at Abbey Road, aired in 2005, that the guitar accompaniment for Blackbird was inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach's Bourrée in E minor, a well-known lute piece, often played on the classical guitar.
As teenagers, he and George Harrison tried to learn Bourrée as a show off piece. The Bourrée is distinguished by melody and bass notes played simultaneously on the upper and lower strings.

McCartney adapted a segment of the Bourrée (reharmonised into the original's relative major key of G) as the opening of Blackbird, and carried the musical idea throughout the song.

My arrangement gives the vocal solo to the oboe.

The horn sustains throughout.

Your Mother Should Know is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1967 EP and LP Magical Mystery Tour.

It was written by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney.
Titled after a line in the 1961 film A Taste of Honey, its lyrical premise centres on the history of hit songs across generations.
McCartney said he wrote it as a plea for generational understanding and respect for a mother's life experience.
In the Magical Mystery Tour television film, the song serves as a big production number in the style of a 1930s Hollywood musical. Some commentators view the sequence as cultural satire, as the Beatles are seen dancing and dressed in white evening tails. Your Mother Should Know is in the music hall style, further to McCartney's earlier composition When I'm Sixty-Four.
He first offered it as the Beatles' contribution to the Our World satellite broadcast in June 1967, but the band favoured John Lennon's All You Need Is Love for its social significance.

The initial sessions for the song took place at Chappell Recording Studios in London towards the end of August. The group were visited there by their manager, Brian Epstein, a visit that marked the last time he joined them in the studio before his death on 27 August.

Let It Be is a song by the English rock band The Beatles, released on 6 March 1970 as a single, and (in an alternative mix) as the title track of their album Let It Be. It was written and sung by Paul McCartney, and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership.

The single version of the song, produced by George Martin, features a softer guitar solo and the orchestral section mixed low, compared to the album version, produced by Phil Spector, featuring a more aggressive guitar solo and the orchestral sections mixed higher.

At the time, it had the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100, beginning its chart run at number 6 and eventually reaching the top. It was the Beatles' final single before McCartney announced his departure from the band. Both the Let It Be album and the US single The Long and Winding Road were released after McCartney's announced departure from and the subsequent break-up of the group.

This song was performed by the Beatles on Our World, the first live global television link; the BBC had commissioned the Beatles to write a song for the United Kingdom's contribution. Recorded in 1967, it had Lennon playing harpsichord, Paul McCartney on double bass, George Harrison on violin (an instrument he had never previously played), and Ringo Starr on drums, plus vocals, piano (played by their producer, George Martin), banjo (by Lennon), guitar and orchestral parts. The song has dramatic time changes and some unusual use of harmony. I have presented it here to work well as a small group arrangement.

Yesterday is a song by English rock band the Beatles written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney) first released on the album Help! in the United Kingdom in August 1965.

Yesterday, with the B-side Act Naturally, was released as a single in the United States in September 1965. While it topped the American chart in October the song also hit the British top 10 in a cover version by Matt Monro.

The song also appeared on the UK EP Yesterday in March 1966 and the Beatles' US album Yesterday and Today released in June 1966.

McCartney's vocal and acoustic guitar, together with a string quartet, essentially made for the first solo performance of the band. It remains popular today with more than 2,200 cover versions and is one of the most covered songs in the history of recorded music.

My arrangement differs from others you may find.
Rather than giving the tune to one player, I have given it in turn to oboe, horn, flute and tutti.
The flute enters after the 1st verse.
The accompaning parts are not simply block chords, but are varied and full of interest to each player.

The chorus section is treat as a chorale, with all the players playing.

This is the wind quintet version you need!

Martha My Dear is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 eponymous double album The Beatles (also known as the White Album).
Credited to Lennon–McCartney, the song was written solely by Paul McCartney about his Old English Sheepdog, Martha. It has been covered by several artists, including Slade, Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass, Phish, World Party, and Les Boréades de Montréal.

The song incorporates elements from pop rock music; it also features a music hall-inspired piano line that recurs throughout the piece, as well as a brass section. The song modulates through several keys The song is notated mainly in the key of Eâ™ major, showing up embellished chords with jazzy sprinkled dissonances. The verse is a syncopated replicate of the first melodic section adding two extra beats, a technique similar to that used later by McCartney in Two of Us. Though the bridge is in the key of F major, the manner in which it abruptly sets in and exits makes it sound more out-of-the-way than it really is.

Strawberry Fields Forever is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. It was released on 13 February 1967 as a double A-side single with Penny Lane. It represented a departure from the group's previous singles and a novel listening experience for the contemporary pop audience. While the song initially divided and confused music critics and the group's fans, it proved highly influential on the emerging psychedelic genre. Its accompanying promotional film is similarly recognised as a pioneering work in the medium of music video.

Lennon based the song on his childhood memories of playing in the garden of Strawberry Field, a Salvation Army children's home in Liverpool.

This arrangement provides a relatively simple version of this song with melodies and harmonies being passed around the ensemble.

This arrangement also includes an optional Drum Kit part.
