This massive hit by Roy Orbison and Bill Dees has been carefully arranged for standard Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn in F and Bassoon) plus optional percussion.   With school and amateur ensembles in mind, this arrangement is designed for intermediate players and above.  Percussion (Drum Kit or  Cajon) can be added for additional colour if desired, but is not essential for a convincing performance.  The music is faithful in spirit to the original, with everyone having their moments in the spotlight as themes are shared by the players across the ensemble.  The PDF is 22 pages in length (portrait A4) and includes a score and parts plus optional percussion, with additional parts for Horn in Eb and Bass Clarinet to allow substitution of the Horn and Bassoon for non standard ensembles if required. The duration of the piece is about 2.20 minutes.  Look out for other instrumental versions by the same publisher for Saxophone, Clarinet and Brass Quintets.

In the UK it will be a popular addition to Film & TV based programmes because of the march's use as the theme for Monty Python's Flying Circus.Sousa’s The Liberty Bell (March) for Military Band was published in 1893 and became an immediate hit. It was originally scored for: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, cymbals, bass drum, snare drum, and strings. However, it is often performed today by a standard Military Band, consisting of woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. An abbreviated version of Liberty Bell was used as the theme tune for the British television comedy sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974.This arrangement for Wind Quintet consists of the whole March with its Trio section. Have members of the ensemble take a solo - improvisation is a great skill to have, and it will help your concert program stand out. Alternative parts for Horn and Bassoon are also included for non standard ensembles on Tenor Horn in Eb and Bass Clarinet respectively.
