Arranged by Ray Thompson. 21st Century,Chamber,Christmas. 16 pages. RayThompsonMusic #911217. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1322945). An original composition based on the 12 Days of Christmas, for wind quintet. The Twelve Days of Christmas is an English Christmas carol. A classic example of a cumulative song, the lyrics detail a series of increasingly numerous gifts given to the speaker by their true love on each of the twelve days of Christmas (the twelve days that make up the Christmas season, starting with Christmas Day). This is NOT a standard play through of all 12 verses. It could be a challenge for your audience to sing along to, I suggest you tell them not to try!I have added/removed/inserted bars of different length, changed the timing of entry for each new day, and generally had fun.I started the piece in the key of Bb, modulating through C, Db, D and ending in Eb!I have also added syncopation in parts.Ā This gives the piece more interest both for the player and the listener!!The melody is carried by varying members of the quintet at different times.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553727 Composed by Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Holiday,Wedding. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3583193. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553727). Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (27 February 1848 – 7 October 1918) was an English composer, teacher and historian of music.Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. As a composer he is best known for the choral song Jerusalem, his 1902 setting for the coronation anthem I was glad, the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune Repton, which sets the words Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations. The following is taken from All Music....Helen, Countess of Rador was the wife of the Fifth Earl of Longford Castle, Salisbury and was a close personal friend of Hubert Parry. She was unique in many ways, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her personality was her insistence upon doing things not normally viewed as acceptable ways for a proper Victorian Lady to entertain herself. One of these activities was commissioning works for a seventy-two piece chamber orchestra which she then conducted in a public performance in London. The Lady Radnor Suite is one such work, and Lady Radnor and her chamber orchestra gave the first performance June 29, 1894 at St. James Hall. Parry patterned the work on the early classical orchestral suite of dance movements, and the six movements all demonstrate the influence of antiquity. Each traditional dance style is preserved with great care, while Parry's own particularly English harmonic language marks them as more contemporary. This movt. is arranged for wind quintet.Other mvts are availableI have also arrangements of another suite by Parry on this site: The English Suite

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1438084 Composed by Domenico Gallo. Arranged by Ray Thompson. Baroque,Chamber,Classical. 11 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1018160. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1438084). Arranged wind quintetThis music was originally attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi, as they were so described in a Mr R. Bremner's original 1780 London publication. They were also arranged later by Hugo Riemann, and were again wrongly attributed to Giovanni Pergolesi. It is actually the 1st movement of Domenico Gallo's 1st Trio Sonata in G.It was used by Igor Stravinsky as a basis of the first movement (Sinfonia) of his Neo Classical Ballet Pulcinella. The Pulcinella Suite for small chamber orchestra and 3 vocalists which was derived from the ballet, was written in 1922 and has no vocal parts. This is the original music he used as the basis of the Sinfonia. But even though Stravinsky used Gallo's (Pergolesi's) melodies and bass lines with little change, he managed to put his own unmistakable stamp on the music through his use of modern harmonies and occasional rhythmic modifications. My arrangement is of the the original Gallo piece:The only change I have made is to move the bar lines so that my piece starts, as does Stravinsky's, with a quaver pickup, rather than Gallo's half bar and a quaver pickup. My arrangement is entirely in 4/4 using Gallo's classical/baroque harmonies. It does not sound too dissimilar to Stravinsky's which sadly will be in copyright for many years.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1130495 Composed by Franz Schubert. Arranged by Hugh Levey. Chamber,Classical,Halloween,Holiday,Romantic Period. 53 pages. Woodwindly.com #730809. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1130495). Wind Quintet (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon) This wind quintet version of Schubert's Erl-King is equally at home as a standard recital piece or used as a piece of ghostly music at Halloween. Erlkƶnig (The Erl-King) is a dramatic poem by the famous German writer and poet, Goethe, written in 1782. Although it has been set to music by many composers, the most well-known is the 1815 setting by Franz Schubert for voice and piano. The Erl-King is a challenging work for the singer because they must portray four distinct characters; narrator, father, son and the Erlkƶnig himself. Schubert's writing is different for each character in terms of pitch, harmony, rhythm, key (major and/or minor), and melodic shape. Singers usually alter the timbre of their voice to emphasise the different roles. In this arrangement for wind quintet, the arranger takes the timbre differences a step further by assigning the characters to different instruments in the quintet. The flute plays the role of narrator, the clarinet is the anxious son, the horn plays the reassuring ( but then worried) father, and the oboe plays the Erlkƶnig with his beautiful enticing melodies that try to lead the boy astray. The bassoon plays the rumbling and troubling bass line that helps set the mood.

Chamber,Classical. 10 pages. RayThompsonMusic #745005. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1144667). Arranged wind quintet Horn in D and Clarinet in A Alt parts for hn in F and Bb clt Mozart composed this set of three Teutsche (German Dances) in the early months of 1791. The three dances of K. 605 are usually listed with the six dances of K. 600 and the four of K. 602 as Dreizehn deutsche TƤnze (Thirteen German Dances). The pieces first appear on 12 February 1791 on Mozart's List of all my Works, and are the penultimate set of German Dances that Mozart would compose before his death on 5 December 1791. This is my arrangement of dance 1 Dance 1: The first dance begins with a series of repeating phrases that have a rich texture and are emphasised by the violins. Small, light fanfares can be heard throughout the piece being played by the trumpets. At the end of the dance the main theme from the beginning of the dance is repeated in a characterful ending. Arranged standard wind quintetPeer Gynt, Op. 23, is the incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's 1867 play of the same name, written by the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg in 1875. It premiered along with the play on 24 February 1876 in Christiania (now Oslo).Over a decade after composing the full incidental music for Peer Gynt, Grieg extracted eight movements to make two four-movement suites known as the Peer Gynt Suites Nos 1 and 2.These suites are among his best-known works, however, they initially began as incidental compositions.Suite No. 1, Op. 46 was published in 1888, and Suite No. 2, Op. 55 was published in 1893.A typical rendition of both suites lasts 20 to 35 minutes.Suite No. 1 is better known as it contains Ā both Morning and The Hall of the Mountain King , but Suite No.2 contains the delightful Solveig's Song which is arranged here.I have arranged all of Suite No.1. You can find it here, and Ā my other Grieg arrangements here.
