Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.787233

Composed by Greg Bartholomew. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. 11 pages. Burke & Bagley #48413. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787233).

The Second Suite from Razumov derives from the second act of Razumov, Greg Bartholomewā€™s chamber opera based on the novel Under Western Eyes by Joseph Conrad. The opera tells the story of a young Russian, Razumov, who is caught up in the consequences when a fellow university student, Victor Haldin, assassinates a government minister. Themes for Part 1 are taken from the opening scene of Act Two, in which Haldinā€™s mother, in exile in Geneva and worried by the lack of news from her son, learns that Victor was the assassin and has now been caught and executed. Part 2 is an instrumental interlude. Part 3 is based on the scene in which Razumov is urged to visit Mrs. Haldin, an encounter Razumov dreads because it was he who informed on Haldin to the government. The final Part corresponds to the scene in which Razumov learns that news received from Russia has released him from suspicion for Haldinā€™s death by placing responsibility on an innocent man.

The Suite was commissioned by a consortium of ensembles led by the Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh, who presented the world premiere performance on November 9, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh. SKU: A0.1323402

Composed by Dom Waldock. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV. 17 pages. Dominic Waldock #911623. Published by Dominic Waldock (A0.1323402).

ā€œAnkh-Morporkā€ for wind quintet, composed by Dom Waldock.

Ankh-Morpork is the largest city on Terry Pratchettā€™s Disc. It was originally two cities (Ankh and Morpork) separated by the River Ankh and is home to over a million inhabitants comprising of dwarfs, trolls, werewolves, zombies, golems, humans among other things. Due to the eclectic nature of Ankh-Morpork, I felt that a wind quintet would be appropriate instrumentation as its broad range of timbres and sounds can match the diverse and bustling city. Throughout the work the music travels through various scenes: from the City Watch to the Assassinā€™s Guild and on to some of the townā€™s famous street-theatre. A ā€œclumsyā€ theme is introduced at the start and returns later on in the coda to emphasise the haphazardness of Ankh-Morpork and its populace.
