The Pavane in F-sharp minor, Op. 50, is a short work by the French composer Gabriel Fauré written in 1887. It was originally a piano piece, but is better known in Fauré's version for orchestra and optional chorus. It was first performed in Paris in 1888, becoming one of the composer's most popular works.

Faure wrote his Pavane For A Dead Princess in 1887. It is presented here in the ALTERNATE key of G minor and arranged for a woodwind quintet. The horn part is optional and the arrangement works as a quartet. The form also perfectly fits the original Faure piece so it can be performed with choir. This arrangement is unique that all the solos also coincide with the original orchestration by Faure. Download the version in F# minor for the original key.

The original Suite for string orchestra has been arranged for flute, oboe, clarinet in Bb, horn in F and Bassoon. The six movements, Basse Dance, Pavane, Tordion, Bransles, Pieds en l'air and Mattachins - Sword Dance, have their origins round about the 15th and 16th centuries and were all music for dancing.

Players of good intermediate standard should enjoy the challenge of the contrasting styles of the dances.
