Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel wrote the Cholera Cantata in 1831, to mark the end of the epidemic that had devastated Berlin. The original, 13- part work was written for choir and chamber orchestra. The lyrics, derived from Biblical texts, depict both the despair and mourning felt during the height of the epidemic, and also celebratory praise at its cessation. After the initial performance in 1832, the piece remained unpublished (and likely unperformed) until it was rediscovered in the Mendelssohn Archives at the Berlin State Library 150 years later. When Rossini discovered these quartets that he wrote when he was 12 he described them as : Six   dreadful   sonatas   composed   by   me   at   the   country   estate   of   my   friend   Agostino   Triossi,   when   I   was   at   a   most   infantile   age,   not   even   having   taken   a   lesson   in   accompaniment,   the   whole   composed   and   copied   out   in   three   days.     These   delightful   sonate   a   quattro   are   the   earliest   of   his   works   to   have   survived   and   they   have   been   in   the   repertoire   ever   since   he   wrote   them.       They   were   first   published   in   an   arrangement   for   string   quartet.       A   version   for   wind   quartet   followed   in   1828/9.      This arrangement is for Wind Quintet with the addition of an oboe part. This provides a wider range of textures and also provides an opportunity to share the thematic material between all the players.

A Honored Artist of the Moldovan Republic (1974), she was awarded many others prizes and distinctions such as the State Prize of Moldova (1982), the The Order of Labor Glory (1987) among others. Her work catalogue numbers more than 800 compositions in different genres, among them are operas, a ballet, symphonic and vocal-symphonic works, chamber music, children music including children operas, choruses and didactic works. About 600 compositions of Zlata Tkach were published in Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, as well as in UK, Germany, USA and Canada. Her scenic works were staged in many theaters of the former USSR. Zlata Tkach is rediscovered as one of Eastern Europe's most prolific woman-composers.
