La trascrizione per quintetto di fiati di Recondita armonia, una delle arie più iconiche dell'opera Tosca di Giacomo Puccini, è concepita per mantenere l'intensità emotiva e la bellezza melodica dell'originale, adattandola a una formazione cameristica che possa esprimere al meglio le sfumature timbriche e dinamiche del brano.
Struttura e Adattamento
La trascrizione è stata realizzata per flauto, oboe, clarinetto, fagotto e corno. Ogni strumento svolge un ruolo specifico nel ricreare la ricchezza orchestrale dell'originale, pur rimanendo fedele alla scrittura vocale e orchestrale di Puccini.

- Flauto: Il flauto è stato scelto per riprodurre le linee melodiche più alte e leggere, spesso simili a quelle del violino nella versione orchestrale. La sua brillantezza e agilità permettono di mantenere la chiarezza e la dolcezza della melodia principale.

Questa trascrizione per quintetto di fiati di Recondita armonia riesce a mantenere la forza drammatica e l'intensità emotiva dell'originale, offrendo una nuova prospettiva su un capolavoro dell'opera lirica. Il risultato è un arrangiamento che rispetta la grandezza della musica di Puccini, permettendo a un ensemble da camera di esplorare e esprimere le sfumature di uno dei momenti più emozionanti di Tosca.

Marin Marais (1656 – 1728) was a French composer and viol player at the royal court of Versailles. His most famous works are his five books of Pièces de Viole, from which these pieces are taken.

The Five Old French Dances were first presented as a single edition in the early twentieth century, arranged for viola and piano by Maud E Aldis and Louis T Rowe.

The pieces in the set are as follows and my arrangement of each piece features a different member of the quintet:

This is a shorter version of the original, and this vesrion was played many times as an encore piece by the late great hornist Dennis Brain who called it “a little French dance, which also happens to be the shortest piece I know.�.

Orfeo ed Euridice (French: Orphée et Eurydice; English: Orpheus and Eurydice) is an opera composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, based on the myth of Orpheus and set to a libretto by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. It belongs to the genre of the azione teatrale, meaning an opera on a mythological subject with choruses and dancing. The piece was first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 5 October 1762, in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama. The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas. Variations on its plot-the underground rescue-mission in which the hero must control, or conceal, his emotions-can be found in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Wagner's Das Rheingold. Though originally set to an Italian libretto, Orfeo ed Euridice owes much to the genre of French opera, particularly in its use of accompanied recitative and a general absence of vocal virtuosity. Indeed, twelve years after the 1762 premiere, Gluck re-adapted the opera to suit the tastes of a Parisian audience at the Académie Royale de Musique with a libretto by Pierre-Louis Moline. This reworking was given the title Orphée et Eurydice, and several alterations were made in vocal casting and orchestration to suit French tastes.

O Holy Night (original title: Cantique de Noël) is a well-known sacred song for Christmas performance. Originally based on a French-language poem by poet Placide Cappeau, written in 1843, with the first line Minuit, Chrétien, c'est l'heure solennelle (Midnight, Christian, is the solemn hour) that composer Adolphe Adam set to music in 1847. The English version (with small changes to the initial melody) is by John Sullivan Dwight. The carol reflects on the birth of Jesus as humanity's redemption.

This arrangement for wind quintet is based an arrangement for organ and chorus, by Dudley Buck.

The triplet figure are shared between clarinet, horn and bassoon. The melody is shared between oboe, clarinet and flute.

La plus que lente, L. 121 The more than slow), is a waltz for solo piano written by Claude Debussy in 1910, shortly after his publication of the Préludes, Book I.

The piece debuted at the New Carlton Hotel in Paris, where it was transcribed for strings and performed by the popular 'gipsy' violinist, Léoni, for whom Debussy wrote it (and who was given the manuscript by the composer).

Despite its title, La plus que lente was not meant to be played slowly; lente, in this context, refers to the valse lente genre that Debussy attempted to emulate.Typical of Debussy's caustic approach to naming his compositions, it represented his reaction to the vast influence of the slow waltz in France's social atmospheres. However, as Frank Howes noted, La plus que lente is, in Debussy's wryly humorous way, the valse lente [slow waltz] to outdo all others.

The work is marked Molto rubato con morbidezza, indicating Debussy's encouragement of a flexible tempo.

Satie gave it the whimsical subtitle fantaisie sérieuse (A Serious Fantasy). It was premiered at the Théâtre du Colisée in Paris on June 14, 1921, conducted by Vladimir Golschmann. The composer later arranged it for piano four hands.

Satie composed this set of solo dances between July and October 1920. It was a high-spirited throwback to his turn-of-the-century cabaret idiom after a brief serious period that had produced the cantata Socrate (1918) and the piano Nocturnes (1919). The suite consists of three dances (march, waltz, can-can) and an instrumental ritornello.
