Along with the famous Gymnopédies (1888) they are regarded as his first important works, and the ones upon which his reputation as a harmonic innovator and precursor of modern French music, beginning with Debussy, principally rests. The Sarabandes also played a key role in Satie's belated discovery by his country's musical establishment in the 1910s, setting the stage for his international notoriety.French composer and critic Alexis Roland-Manuel wrote in 1916 that the Sarabandes represented a milestone in the evolution of our music...pieces of an unprecedented harmonic technique, born of an entirely new aesthetic, which create a unique atmosphere, a sonorous magic of complete originality.The sarabande is a dance in triple meter that originated in the Spanish colonies of Central America in the mid-1500s. It had migrated to Europe by the 17th Century, where in France it became a popular slow court dance. The historical context of Bach's BWV 812 French Suite No. 1 is rooted in its composition during a period of prolific creativity in Bach's life, around 1722-1725. These suites, including the French Suite No. 1, were crafted as part of a collection intended for teaching purposes within Bach's private circle, particularly to enhance the keyboard skills of his second wife, Anna Magdalena. The French Suites were written when Bach was newly married to Anna Magdalena, following the passing of his first wife, Maria Barbara. These suites were considered a wedding gift for Anna Magdalena. They were part of Bach's efforts to provide musical education to his wife and children from previous marriages. The suites blend French and German styles, featuring a series of dances in the same key, such as allemande, courante, sarabande, minuets, and gigue. Despite being labeled as French suites, Bach did not give them this title himself. The French Suites are known for their moderate difficulty level compared to Bach's other keyboard works, such as the English Suites.

The original video of the song was shot in Austin, Texas.The song structure remains, of course, the same throughout the arrangement. Both, clarinet and horn, participate in carrying Joe Strummer's unique, repetitive tune; the horn also has a prominent part in the chorus sections and often provides an insidious counter-melody. The bassoon plays the driving bass part. The flute and oboe mirror the guitar parts through accented, staccato harmony, throughout; at times, their flurries also evoke the guitar licks and sound effects.The arrangement is appropriate to play in concerts at schools, conservatories, community centers, and museums by Intermediate-to-Advanced ensembles.
