Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1271384 By Duke Ellington. By Duke Ellington/Barney Bigard. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Jazz,Standards,Traditional. 14 pages. Keith Terrett #863782. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1271384). C Jam Blues is a jazz standard composed in 1942 by Duke Ellington and performed by countless other musicians, such as Dave Grusin, Django Reinhardt, Oscar Peterson, and Charles Mingus, arranged here for Recorder Quintet. As the title suggests, the piece follows a twelve-bar blues form in the key of C major. The tune is well known for being extremely easy to play, with the entire melody featuring only two notes: G and C.A performance typically features several improvised solos. The melody likely originated from the clarinetist Barney Bigard in 1941, but its origin is not perfectly clear. It was also known as Duke's Place, with lyrics added by Bill Katts, Bob Thiele and Ruth Roberts.Ellington's black and white film was produced in 1942. The video depicts a jam session where Ellington begins playing with a double bass before gradually being joined by other members of his band, among them drummer Sonny Greer and trumpeter Rex Stewart. The film title is Jam Session. Western Swing band leader Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys recorded the song sometime between 1945 and 1947 as part of the Tiffany Transcriptions. Bill Doggett recorded a version on his 1958 tribute album Salute to Duke Ellington (King). C Jam Blues was used by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band as the basis of their song The Intro and the Outro. Mulgrew Miller and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen included the song in their 1999 album The Duets. The Dave Brubeck Quartet performed this live at the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival; the recording appears in their album Newport 1958. YouTube Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOlpcJhNyDI.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.734402 By Wynton Marsalis. By Joe Avery. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Blues,Contemporary,Jazz,Wedding. 35 pages. Chicory Music #4349091. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734402). Second Line, some time called Joe Avery’s Blues, is a song written by the eponymous trombonist that is popular at second line parades. It is usually played at wedding receptions, parties, parades and at the end of a jazz funeral. The song is based on a simple 12-bar blues form and has a very singable melody. Before the melody starts, Soprano Sax (Opt. Alto Sax) plays a loud, high call to which the crowd responds, Hey! The group then proceeds to play the melody while second line parade festivities ensue. This arrangement, written at the Advanced / Intermediate level for Sax Quintet, is a fun and easy to perform tune for students or professionals. Solos for Soprano Sax (Opt. Alto Sax), Tenor Sax 2, and Baritone Sax  may be played as written or improvised with the included chord symbols.  Optional Acoustic Bass and Drum Set parts are also included for a more realistic performance. Performance time approx. 2 min. 40 sec.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.833865 By Chicago. By Robert Lamm. Arranged by Michael Compton. Pop,Rock. 16 pages. Kreechur Kumfort Publishing #6448459. Published by Kreechur Kumfort Publishing (A0.833865). Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? is a song that was included on Chicago's 1969 debut album Chicago Transit Authority and released as a single in 1970. According to composer Robert Lamm, it was the first song recorded for the album. The song was not released as a single until two tracks from the band's second album, Make Me Smile and 25 or 6 to 4, had become hits. It reached No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 2 in Canada. Said Lamm: [It's] not a complicated song, but it’s certainly a quirky song. But that was my intent. I wanted to write something that wasn’t ordinary, that wasn’t blues-based, that didn’t have ice cream changes, and would allow the horns to shine and give Lee Loughnane a solo. This arrangement is for saxophone quintet (soprano, alto, two tenors, and baritone) and the melody is passed around the ensemble a bit. The arrangement is suitable for intermediate level players.
