Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.787233 Composed by Greg Bartholomew. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary,Standards. 11 pages. Burke & Bagley #48413. Published by Burke & Bagley (A0.787233). The Second Suite from Razumov derives from the second act of Razumov, Greg Bartholomew’s chamber opera based on the novel Under Western Eyes by Joseph Conrad. The opera tells the story of a young Russian, Razumov, who is caught up in the consequences when a fellow university student, Victor Haldin, assassinates a government minister. Themes for Part 1 are taken from the opening scene of Act Two, in which Haldin’s mother, in exile in Geneva and worried by the lack of news from her son, learns that Victor was the assassin and has now been caught and executed. Part 2 is an instrumental interlude. Part 3 is based on the scene in which Razumov is urged to visit Mrs. Haldin, an encounter Razumov dreads because it was he who informed on Haldin to the government. The final Part corresponds to the scene in which Razumov learns that news received from Russia has released him from suspicion for Haldin’s death by placing responsibility on an innocent man. The Suite was commissioned by a consortium of ensembles led by the Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh, who presented the world premiere performance on November 9, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburgh. Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.553724 Composed by Charles Hubert Hastings Parry. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Holiday,Wedding. 9 pages. RayThompsonMusic #3578175. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.553724). Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (27 February 1848 – 7 October 1918) was an English composer, teacher and historian of music.Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. As a composer he is best known for the choral song Jerusalem, his 1902 setting for the coronation anthem I was glad, the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune Repton, which sets the words Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations. The following is taken from All Music....Helen, Countess of Rador was the wife of the Fifth Earl of Longford Castle, Salisbury and was a close personal friend of Hubert Parry. She was unique in many ways, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her personality was her insistence upon doing things not normally viewed as acceptable ways for a proper Victorian Lady to entertain herself. One of these activities was commissioning works for a seventy-two piece chamber orchestra which she then conducted in a public performance in London. The Lady Radnor Suite is one such work, and Lady Radnor and her chamber orchestra gave the first performance June 29, 1894 at St. James Hall. Parry patterned the work on the early classical orchestral suite of dance movements, and the six movements all demonstrate the influence of antiquity. Each traditional dance style is preserved with great care, while Parry's own particularly English harmonic language marks them as more contemporary. This move is arranged for wind quintet.I have also arrangements of another suite by Parry on this site: The English Suite

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1404381 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Baroque,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Standards. 14 pages. Jmsgu3 #987456. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1404381). The historical context of Bach's BWV 812 French Suite No. 1 is rooted in its composition during a period of prolific creativity in Bach's life, around 1722-1725. These suites, including the French Suite No. 1, were crafted as part of a collection intended for teaching purposes within Bach's private circle, particularly to enhance the keyboard skills of his second wife, Anna Magdalena. The French Suites were written when Bach was newly married to Anna Magdalena, following the passing of his first wife, Maria Barbara. These suites were considered a wedding gift for Anna Magdalena. They were part of Bach's efforts to provide musical education to his wife and children from previous marriages. The suites blend French and German styles, featuring a series of dances in the same key, such as allemande, courante, sarabande, minuets, and gigue. Despite being labeled as French suites, Bach did not give them this title himself. The French Suites are known for their moderate difficulty level compared to Bach's other keyboard works, such as the English Suites.
