The tune of Aura Lea was originally composed by Englishman George R. Poulton (1828–1867) who migrated to the USA. It has undergone many versions in the past 150 years, including the original Civil War song to words by W. W. Fosdick, subtitled Maid with golden hair, Nora Lee, various glee club arrangements and, eventually, Elvis Presley's Love me Tender. The rhythms here switch from swing-like triplets to plain classical and back and various instruments have a few cheeky side comments from time to time, including chromatics and a development going into more modern-romantic harmonies. The sound sample is an electronic preview. The pdf contains score and parts. A simpler arrangement for choir is also available on this site under the title Nora Lee.

American composer, Fidelis Zitterbart’s Suite Fantastique in E Minor: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, inspired by Washington Irving's short story, was originally composed for a chamber ensemble of two violins, viola, flute, and piano.  The final movement of the work, The Headless Rider, depicts the spectral figure who roams the night on horseback, searching for something lost and seeking revenge.  The music conveys a sense of urgency and intensity, as if the Headless Rider is on a relentless quest through the darkness.  This arrangement for string orchestra features a driving ostinato figure by the violas, making it an ideal selection for an orchestra with a strong viola section for a Halloween-themed concert.  Score and Parts.  Duration: Approx. 4 minutes.

â??Donâ??t Flee from Meâ?? (Duration 3'16) is the fifth song in the song cycle of contemporary classical art songs â??Songs of Love and Desireâ?? for Mezzo Soprano voice, composed by Margaret Brandman to the passionate lyrics penned by Désirée Regina. 

This dramatic song is the most operatic of the collection. It is in the same minor key as the first song in the cycle.  In this song, the singer pleads with her lover not to leave her in sorrow.  

The work has been performed in concert many times by lyricist Désirée Regina and composer/pianist Margaret Brandman who have also recorded the song cycle for the â??Songs of Love and Desireâ?? album on the JazzEM music label (MMP8041).  The work is registered with A.P.R.A (Australian Performing Rights Association).
