One is the tale of Prometheus, who created people out of clay and gave them fire. This angered Zeus, who chained Prometheus to a rock on Mount Kazbegi in the Caucasus. Daily an eagle feasted on his liver, which regrew each night. Heracles (Hercules) killed the eagle, freeing Prometheus from this torture. The composer Alexander Scriabin created a synthetic scale later known as the Prometheus scale and its related chord, also called the Mystic Chord, which feature in this short piece for the third smallest constellation in the night sky. This piece is built on a scale devised by Messiaen which proceeds in a pattern of tone then two semitones, and opens and closes with his Chord of Resonance built on this third mode of limited transposition. When he did, she honoured her vow, placing the hair in the temple of Aphrodite. The next day, the hair was gone.
