Psalm 150 is the KJV text used for Praise Ye The Lord! It is an energetic piece designed for choirs in general but aimed at youth choirs of churches or young choirs in middle school and high school. The composition is SATB with easy unison sections and easily sung parts with piano accompaniment. There is an optional flute part (or C instrument) that adds extra interest to the overall performance. The piece is suitable for most concert venues where sacred music is performed and can be performed by college and adult groups as well. The piece is generally easy to medium easy for young singers. While a sacred text, this piece is appropriate for schools and students; it can be performed by anyone. ♫ I first heard this song as a child in a California public school general music class. I have loved it ever since. The Latin lyrics are a stanza of ‘Sacris Somemniis’ a hymn written by Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century to celebrate the body of Christ in the Roman Catholic mass. Romantic period composer César Franck set the Latin text to music in 1861. The English words are a prayer to God. For several years I have wanted to create a piano solo version, but couldn’t get free from the styling of the piano/organ accompaniment versions I had heard.
