This wistfully melancholy piano solo is inspired by Penelope from Homer's Odyssey.  Penelope is the portrait of desperate longing, as she waits for her husband Odysseus to return for twenty years.  This piece is the perfect musical companion for those times you long for the return of a loved one.This piece is challenging with a portion in E-flat minor (six flats), many heavy chords, and arpeggios (I am still brushing it up myself!).  I would say, however, that if one can handle Debussy's Claire de Lune, he can handle this piece.  I suggest using the sustain pedal to your advantage so as to be able to take different portions of the arpeggios with different hands.  Despite the rhythmic and technical challenges, this entire piece ought to be expressive from start to finish.  A rather cathartic piece in nature, this is the piece to let your emotions guide.Hopefully, there will be a YouTube channel with recordings of this piece and all my future pieces.  Stay tuned for more information!  For any comments, questions, and other constructive feedback, contact me at amhpatterson.music@gmail.com.

During his studies at the High School of Poitiers, he was also the student of pianist Hélène d’Ambelle who was herself a student of the great French Pianist Alfred Cortot. It was his work with Jean-Albert Villard, the organist of the Cliquot organ of the Cathedral of Poitiers which would determine his vocation as an organist. Jacques Dussouil continued his studies in Paris with Noëlie Pierront and especially with Edouard SouberbielleHis duties at the Royan Cathedral lead him to also become a choral director and composer, founding one of the best Cathedral Choirs in France which he directed for many years. DeLuca for her own piano students to help them build and develop their reading and playing skills. These pieces focus on patterns and shapes that appear over and over. Level One is the easiest at the elementary level and Level Five is the final composition at a late elementary to early intermediate level. Each level has the same skeletal structure with varying modifications to help the student build their skills in reading and playing. As the levels get increasingly difficult, the challenge decreases. Ms. DeLuca found her students taking a new level every one to two weeks and these were beginning level readers! Each level includes a workbook sheet that focuses on the patterns and intervals introduced in each song, so the student can concentrate on specific skills prior to learning the entire piece. Minuet in C is a five-level song that takes the student to a very advanced piece of music in a very short period of time.
