Travis Picking is a versatile and widely used fingerstyle guitar accompaniment for pop, rock, and folk music. Sometimes referred to as Cotton Picking, this accompaniment style was initially attributed to the woman who first popularized this sound in the early part of the 20th Century, Elizabeth Cotton.
From Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Joan Baez, to Kansas, Miley Cyrus, Pearl Jam, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, Dan Fogelberg, Jim Croce, Paul McCartney, the Plain White T’s, the list goes on and on of artists using many variations of this technique.
As a teacher, the focus of my musical journey in the past years has been the instruction of guitar, music theory, harmony, and their application in primarily chord melody arranging for solo jazz guitar. My second love are the various fingerstyle accompaniment styles and techniques of which Travis Picking is the king.
