Composed by Jim Steinman, with a book by Michael Kunze.Transcribing Tanzsaal for concert band was both a challenge and an exciting opportunity to bring this theatrical masterpiece into a new context. Though it contains elements from the 2019 Berlin Cast Recording, the majority of the material is transcribed from the original 1997 Vienna Cast Recording. Most of the original string parts have been given to the saxes and lower clarinets. The upper woodwinds retain the expanded ornamental material from the Berlin production. Two of the melodies prominently featured in this piece are recurring themes throughout the show. Gott ist tot” (God is dead) and Totale Finsternis (Eternal Darkness) appear as both their own numbers, and as incidental melodic material.
