The beloved Canon in D Major by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) is offered here in a flexible arrangement for one two, or three violas. Originally composed for three instruments, this edition allows Pachelbel’s Canon to be played if only one or two instruments are available. Provided are three keyboard parts: Keyboard 1 is to be used if there are three instruments; Keyboard 2 if there are only two instruments (the keyboard playing third part completing the trio); and Keyboard 3 if there is only one instrument (the keyboard playing the second part making a duet). Alternatively, the melody is beautiful and compelling enough that the work can be played as a duet or as a solo accompanied by the Keyboard 1 part. An optional Cello/Bassoon part and a page of notes providing the background and history of the work are also included. Arrangements for other instruments are also available.
