It was also the name of the Beatles’ film released in the same year. Help! was primarily written by John Lennon. In later interviews he admitted that Help! was a subconscious response to the pressures of fame and that commercial pressures had forced the band to record it as an up-tempo pop song rather than a reflective ballad. This version of Help! is arranged as a duet for two Soprano Saxophones. The range will suit musicians at an intermediate level though the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms will represent a challenge. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon was originally scored for three Violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo playing an ostinato pattern, repeating the same harmonic progression throughout the entire composition.Regis Bookshar has now arranged this composition for a String Trio, consisting of 1 Violin, 1 Viola and 1 Violoncello which play the melody in canon and a Keyboard instrument, either a Piano or Organ, which plays the ostinato pattern. This arrangement is suited for high school and college students and is perfect for concerts, recitals and church services, especially for weddings, but could be performed for any occasion.
