This song was the theme for the James Bond movie Goldfinger. Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse wrote the lyrics and John Barry the music. It was Shirley Bassey's biggest hit.  John Barry said that his goal for the Bond themes was to make them larger-than-life and lots of fun.

At age 76, Shirley Bassey performed the song during the 2013 Academy Awards as part of a tribute to the James Bond franchise's 50th anniversary on the big-screen.

It's hard to get more iconic than Sean Connery as James Bond in the 1964 blockbuster, Goldfinger, with Gert Fröbe in the title role.
John Barry composed the metal-heavy score and the title song. It was his personal favorite.
Barry named Shirley Bassey as the ideal interpretrix for Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley's lyrics with her can belto delivery. Nobody could have sung it like her; she had that great dramatic sense. he said.

But the name-dropping doesn't end there: The session producer at Abbey Road Studios was George Martin (who produced for The Beatles). Strumming away on guitars are John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, who later became half of rock legends Led Zeppelin. That's a whole lotta awesome!
 
This arrangement for string quartet is a relatively straight-forward idiomatic transcription but transposed to the tonality of the sheet music published in 1964. The recording with Shirley Bassey is a semitone lower.

The level is intermediate in a technical sense but please pay attention to style. Try to leave your audience emotionally stirred, not shaken.

Goldfinger is a 1964 spy film and the third instalment in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions, starring Sean Connery as the fictional MI6 agent James Bond. Goldfinger is the soundtrack for the 1964 film of the same name, the third film in the James Bond film series, directed by Guy Hamilton. The album was composed by John Barry and distributed by EMI. Two versions were released initially, one in the United States and the United Kingdom, which varied in terms of length and which tracks were within the soundtrack. In 2003, Capitol-EMI records released a remastered version that contained all the tracks within the film.

This arrangement is written in a little big band format and is in the original Shirley Bassey key of G# minor, as sung on the sound track of the James Bond film, Goldfinger. This chart has been written for 6 horns (alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, 2 trumpets and trombone) and follows the same form as the original recording. The key may present problems for less experienced players although the horn figures are fairly straightforward forward. It will require a robust lead trumpet for the ending although the C6 (written) and 2nd trumpet parts could be played 8vab.
