Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1451821). The Florida Suite is an orchestral suite by English composer Frederick Delius (1862-1934). Despite the work's title, Delius actually composed this suite in Leipzig in 1887 after his time as manager of an orange grove in Jacksonville (Florida). 'By the River' is the second - flowing - movement of the 'Florida Suite. It's illustrating the gentle but perpetual movement of the 'St. Johns River' (on the banks of which was Delius's plantation). The calmness and steady rhythm of this movement guides the listener into a peaceful reflection.
