Composed by Consuelo Velazquez. Arranged by Will Corbin. Latin,Pop. 20 pages. Will Corbin #1038143. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1459173).
Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velazquez wrote Besame Mucho, words and music, in 1941. When she died in 2005, The New York Times said this of the song in her obituary: 'Bésame Mucho' is not so much an enduring standard as a global phenomenon. Translated into dozens of languages and performed by hundreds of artists, the song has been an emblem of Latin identity, an anthem of lovers separated by World War II and perennial grist for lounge singers everywhere. Virtually every professional recording musician has covered it, from the Beatles to Placido Domingo. This arrangement borrows its 6/4 time signature (and not much more) from the 2001 recording by Maynard Ferguson and Diane Schuur. It's a little more accessible than Ferguson's screaming big band chart.
This one is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.
