I was inspired to write The Bow Rider after sharing camping stories with my brother recently. When I was four years old my family lived in Oregon and our family would go camping with several other families at Shasta Lake in California. Some of the most vivid memories I have from those trips involve riding in our boat (we named it Whoops Wow). I remember riding on the bow of the boat and finding that to be a thrilling and slightly terrifying experience at the time. I gave myself the task of telling the story of this experience through music for concert band. I sincerely hope you enjoy reliving this experience with me.

Broad River Blues is an easy level jazz enssmble blues chart in Bb. I wrote this chart for the Madison County (GA) Middle School Jazz Band a couple of years ago and named it after the river that I would cross each morning as I entered that county on my way to the school from home. All rhythm section parts are fully notated in this chart, but these serve as suggestions and tools for building improvisation and comping skills. The same can be said for the written solos for tenor sax, trumpet, and trombone. Each solo section can easily be opened / extended for improvisation. I hope you and your young jazz ensemble enjoy Broad River Blues!

Two Wrongs Don't Make A Right is something my mother said often when I was growing up. However, I don't think she would have a problem with this 1950's style jazz chart! This bluesy sounding chart in F is remeniscent of tunes from that time period. A Momentous Occaision is a grade 2+ concert opener for band that is quite suitable for use as  processional music for special events and assemblies such as a graduation ceremony or convocation. I wrote this piece in 2011 my band to play as our faculty processed in at our school's graduation ceremony. We needed music that our school's string orchestra students could play with us, and so I included optional parts for 1st & second Violin, Viola, Cello, & Bass. These optional parts are included with this set. My students were able to learn this music in less than a week, which worked out well for our very hectic and irregular end of the year schedule.
