Cello and piano - advanced - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q3116 Composed by Tatjana Komarova. This edition: Sheet music. One of Goya’s darkly sinister works provided the young Russian composer with the inspiration for this triptych. Part 1 is for violoncello solo, part 2 for piano solo. Only part 3 involves both instruments. Downloadable. Duration 10 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q3116. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q3116). The title Triptychon, usually a threepart altarpiece, refers to the structure of the work the three parts of which, ‘images of different states of mind’ (Tatjana Komarova), form a unified whole. Goya’s etching The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters was important to the inner atmosphere of the piece, without having simply been ‘translated’ into music.

Mixed Percussion Instrumental Duet,Tenor Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1315589 Composed by Brian Kershner. 21st Century,Contemporary. 14 pages. Gordon Cherry #904332. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1315589). Here are the program notes of Trombotriptych for solo Trombone and Percussion by composer Brian Kershner.Trombotriptych is the first piece I have written for the trombone in the main, solo role. I decided to mount the work as a duo with limited percussion, one player, and just two instruments, Woodblock and Bongos. The piece allowed me to learn about and explore the many extended techniques that the trombone can produce. I was grateful to work with the person, for whom the piece was written, Topher Logan, as this is such an immense help. The trombone is capable of great, almost oratorical power, as well as sweet, horn-like lyricism. There are portions of the piece which utilize a couple of different mutes, and the open and closed colors of the Harmon mute, slide and position changes for timbre color, glissandi, as well as multiphonics, which on this instrument are produced by using the voice, singing while playing. There are contrasting tempi in the work, including a middle section which seems barless, although is notated traditionally, and an up tempo section toward the end with exciting interplay between the instruments. It is hoped that the work captures the many sides of this most noble, heroic, and yet vocally pure member of the brass family. The music is appropriate for very advanced performers and is about 9 minutes in length.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1232268 Composed by Igor Korneitchouk. 21st Century,Chamber,Contemporary. Score. 38 pages. Studio at the Post #827954. Published by Studio at the Post (A0.1232268). Duration: 24 minutes, 32 pp. Description: Triptych for Piano, “Phoenix†invokes the fabulous Arabian bird and emblem of immortality, who—after centuries of life—is consigned to the fire only to be reborn from the ashes in all the vigor of youth and beauty. The piece captures the life cycle of this celebrated rara avis in a triptych arrangement of three “panels.†Entitled “Embersâ€, the first panel depicts the transformative energy of a lively hearth fire throwing off sparks, erupting with sudden pops of pine pitch, crumbling into hot dusty heaps. The central “Elegy†reaches back to the comforts of traditional piano sound, arriving like the work of memory. The final panel of the triptych is punningly entitled “Meter-morphosisâ€, linking Ovidian myths of transformation with the musical measure of the bar line. The piece is in three movements: Embers (still glowing) - Elegy - Meter-morphosis.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1030615 Composed by William Billings. Arranged by Mike Allsen. Classical,Praise & Worship,Renaissance,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 41 pages. Aaron Hettinga #636010. Published by Aaron Hettinga (A0.1030615). William Billings (1746-1800) was North America’s first great choral composer. He spent most of his life in Boston, working at various times as a tanner or as minor civic official, and occasionally as a church musician. Billings seems to have had little formal music training, but when he was just 22, he also set himself up as an itinerant singing-master, teaching “singing-schools,†where children and adults could learn the rudiments of musical notation and solfege. To feed the market he and other singing-masters had helped to create, Billings published six collections of music, mostly for SATB voices, The first of these, The New England Psalm-Singer (1770) featured a frontispiece engraved by his friend Paul Revere. Billings was fairly prosperous by 1780s, but his good fortune faded in the 1790s. His final collection of music, The Continental Harmony of 1794, was published for his benefit by a group of Boston friends. Billings died destitute in 1800. Billings composed some 340 pieces, mostly collected in his printed editions. This music has a rough-edged and sturdy beauty that is distinctly different from anything in contemporary Europe. The vast majority of Billings’s works were hymns or “psalm tunes.†He was particularly attracted to the great English hymn-writer Isaac Watts (1674-1748), though Billings himself wrote verses for many of his hymns. One of the most famous Billings “psalm tunes,†Chester is not a Christian hymn, but rather a patriotic song of defiance directed against the British. Billings spent nearly all of the Revolutionary War in Boston and made no secret of his patriot sentiments. Chester was first published in 1770, but when he republished it in his The Singing-Master’s Assistant during the height of the war in 1778, Billings added a verse calling out the “infernal league†of the leading British generals Howe, Burgoyne, Clinton, Prescot and Cornwallis. Many brass-players will know Chester from the finale of William Schuman’s 1957 band piece A New England Triptych. Billings also composed over 50 “fuging-tunesâ€â€”a genre that usually included a short introduction and a repeated contrapuntal section. (These fuging sections usually begin with imitation, but they are otherwise not at all like classical fugues written in Europe at the time.) The fuging-tune Creation is one of his later works, published in The Continental Harmony of 1794, and experiments with the form. It sets two verses of the Watts hymn “When I With Pleasing Wonder Stand†though final line of verse 1 is repeated in a striking phrase that suddenly moves twice as fast (m.15). The fuging section begins in m.30, and rather than the usual exact repeat, Billing writes an entirely new and more elaborate second section beginning at m.44. Billings first published the simple but beautiful Africa in 1770, and published a revised version in 1778; the later version appearing with the Isaac Watts hymn “Now Shall My Inward Joys Arise.†I first arranged Africa in 1995, for the Glenwood Moravian Trombone Choir (Madison, WI), and I edited it for this publication. Phrasing and articulations marked here reflect the original vocal texts. Africa has long been a favorite of the Glenwood group. Chester and Creation were arranged in 2022. Mike Allsen February 2022.

Published by Vidas Pinkevicius (A0.1160094). This is an original suite called Angelic Triptych, Op. 218 with 3 movements: I. Heavenly Gates, II. Garden of Eden and III. Praises to the Creator. Heavenly Gates can be considered a joyful processional written in the key of F major. Garden of Eden - quiet meditation in the key of D major and Praises to the Creator - energetic carillon-toccata in the key of F major. The suite can be played on a two manual organ with pedals. The first and the second movements are very accessible and the finale is somewhat more demanding technically. It will be very effective in liturgical organ playing and recital programs.
