Instrumental Duet Bassoon,Instrumental Duet,Oboe - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.587671

Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #4729541. Published by David McKeown (A0.587671).

The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Oboe and Bassoon and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. There are of course separate piano and instrumental parts included in downloaded the file.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamic contrast.

Melody: Question & Answer - Perform, Compose, Understand Series. This pack comprises a piece called In Conversation, worksheets and questions which relate to the piece. It is all about understanding melodic movement and direction.

Welcome to the PCU Series for classroom-based groups. This series focuses on learning by doing; there are many accomplished performers within our school classrooms throughout the world, but my years of experience has taught me that many of these students learn to play by rote – literally be learning one note followed by another – without gaining full understanding of how the pieces work musically and theoretically. Indeed, some of them can perform to a high standard using this method, but then really struggle with composition and general musical understanding later in their educational careers.

I equate this to learning to speak sentences in a foreign language without fully understanding what those sentences actually mean.

So who is this book for?

It is for music teachers to use with their students who are learning to create exam-level compositions within a school environment. It is ideal for courses such as the American High School Diploma, GCSE, IGCSE, SCS, HKCEE, IB(MYP), SPM, GCEO, CCEF, HKCEE, VSSD, GES or ICSE.

It is designed to cater for almost any instrument due to the parts being provided in many different keys and clefs (including tab and bass tab). Drum parts are intentionally not provided as drummers still need to have a good understanding of non-percussive elements such as melody and harmony; I would suggest that they play a keyboard part for the purposes of learning about composition.

You can also download backing tracks of all pieces in this series by searching:

Classroom Performance educational pack: MELODY backing tracks

These contain parts 2-5, allowing part 1 to be played live over the top.

How to use this resource

This pack comprises three stages, the third of which should be gained from success with the first two:

1. Performing

An original performance piece is provided for mixed classroom ensemble. This piece features a musical device of some kind as its focus. There will obviously be other musical components included within the piece as well, but the main element will be very apparent.

2. Composing

Worksheets are provided to enable students to develop their own compositions based on the same focus as the performance piece. Elements of the performance piece are highlighted and short, developmental activities will lead to the students developing their own musical ideas.

3. Understanding

Summary worksheets are provided to enable students to demonstrate their understanding of the topic.

There are two musical elements which appear in all pieces within this PCU series. They are dynamics and articulation. All performance pieces contain them and opportunity is provided to include them within the composing exercises as well.

SKU: A0.1112354

Composed by Scott Joplin. Arranged by David McKeown. 20th Century,Jazz,Ragtime. Score and part. 8 pages. David McKeown #714428. Published by David McKeown (A0.1112354).

The most popular of Scott Joplin’s piano rags during his lifetime, The Maple Leaf Rag was published in 1899. Joplin lived for a while in Sedalia, Missouri and the Maple Leaf Club in that town is thought to have provided the name for this composition. It provided Joplin with a steady income for the rest of his life, and while he requested that it be played at his funeral, his wife refused as she felt it inappropriate. It was the first track on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and, never waning in popularity, it has featured in hundreds of films.

This version for Bassoon and Piano includes all four sections of the original composition. The tempo in recorded versions varies widely between 72 and 126, so the marking of 92 is a suggestion only.

Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around four minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.

Composed by Stephen Schwartz. Arranged by Mark A. Craig / Craig Music Publishers (ASCAP). 21st Century,Broadway,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Pop,Wedding. 18 pages. Mark A. Craig #1041512. Published by Mark A. Craig (A0.1462732).

In anticipation of the upcoming release of the new movie Wicked, the film version of the smash Broadway musical, here is a new woodwind quintet arrangement of Stephen Schwartz's beautiful ballad For Good. It's perfect for weddings, pops concerts, movie nights, Broadway nights, children's or educational programming. This arrangement can be performed by advanced high school and college ensembles and professional quintets. I have included an alternate bass clarinet in lieu of a missing bassoon. I am also currently working on an arrangement of Popular from Wicked. Keep an eye out for that one; it should work quite well for WQ.

If you like this arrangement, you might like my woodwind quintet arrangement of The Way You Look Tonight, a pop standard featured in the film My Best Friend's Wedding. It's available on:

Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Christian,Christmas,Jazz,Sacred. 12 pages. Chicory Music #2946039. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734336).

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is a Christmas carol that first appeared in 1739 in the collection Hymns and Sacred Poems, having been written by Charles Wesley. Wesley had requested and received slow and solemn music for his lyrics, not the joyful tune expected today. Moreover, Wesley's original opening couplet is Hark! how all the welkin rings / Glory to the King of Kings.[1]

The popular version is the result of alterations by various hands, notably by Wesley's co-worker George Whitefield who changed the opening couplet to the familiar one, and by Felix Mendelssohn. In 1840, a hundred years after the publication of Hymns and Sacred Poems, Mendelssohn composed a cantata to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press, and it is music from this cantata, adapted by the English musician William H. Cummings to fit the lyrics of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, that propels the carol known today.

This arrangement, in the saxophone friendly key of F concert, can be preformed with or without the optional acoustic bass and drum set parts. Both performers and audience members will enjoy the modern harmonies used in this presentation. Performance time approx. 2 minutes 6 seconds

Who doesn't love The Lone Ranger? This iconic theme is familiar the world over. It has been used in cartoons and movies and especially the 1950's television series The Lone Ranger. I have set it here as a Bassoon Quartet which gives a unique perspective to this stirring piece. All four parts are of equal difficulty, giving a challenge to all players. I think audiences and performers will appreciate it equally. It's a great way to either start or end any program. By EMILIO ANTONUCCI. By J. Pachelbel. Arranged by EMILIO ANTONUCCI. Baroque,Classical,Early Music,Lent,Religious. 4 pages. EMILIO ANTONUCCI #1081993. Published by EMILIO ANTONUCCI (A0.1506625).
