Sydney is a master at creating musical landscapes which evoke strong imagery.A natural composer, Sydney finished her music composition degree after years of honing her artistry in the absence of outside influences. After completing her formal training in music composition, Sydney graduated cum laude from University of Redlands, Redlands California, receiving the prestigious Sigma Alpha Iota Composer's Award. Stevens also studied music composition at University of York, York England and with composer and recording artist Bill Douglas in Boulder, Colorado.In addition to her large body of songs and piano works, Sydney has also composed music for chamber music and symphony orchestra. Born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Seattle, Washington, Sydney currently resides on the Oregon side of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. Some of the pieces are solo piano and others feature duets with Mitch Iimori on English horn, oboe, and guitar (but not all at the same time!). The two musicians are obviously exceptionally comfortable and in tune with each other, and the results can be stunning. Very classical in scope and structure, the music is reflective of the natural surroundings of Ms Stevens’ home in the Colombia Gorge region of northern Oregon. The first eight of the fourteen tracks make up the Seasons Suite, a group of lyrical compositions inspired by the various times of year in a remote area of eastern Oregon. The other six pieces also have themes of nature and serenity.The Seasons Suite begins with Colors Change, obviously about the transition of summer into fall, but also about the concept of change as we grow. Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling in the ceaseless wind of that area. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing!In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite. On Summit, Iimori trades his woodwinds for guitar in a gentle, sweeping duet with the piano. Waning Star is a gorgeous piano solo that has a peaceful grace and quiet serenity - a favorite. Reach For the Stars is a piano solo that has an uplifting sense of moving forward and reaching out. Dawn closes the CD with a warm and soothing confection. The piano is accompanied by light percussion, bass, and washes of synth strings. Full of hope and optimism without being sugarcoated, this piece is spellbinding in its gentle way.

Grass Roots was composed during 2009-2010 for Steven Maxwell of Kansas State University. The inspiration for this composition was Ken Burn's series on America's National Parks. The composer was not only inspired by the beauty and grandeur of the parks, but also by the vision of a few people that turned into the reality, therefore the title of this composition. The first movement is called A Voice in the Wilderness and represents the voice of John Muir, who recognized the beauty of Yosemite and made an effort to preserve it for future generations. The lyrical sections reflect the beauty of the area and the chromaticism reflects the uncertainty of his efforts. Conflicts is the title of the second movement as it represents the opposing forces in the debate to create a national park system. Lively rhythm and counterpoint are used throughout the movement to express the opposing points of view and the heated arguments. The last movement, Manifestations is the realization of the dream of a national park system. The movement is lyrical and flowing and is designed to be both serene and awe-inspiring.

It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Trombone.It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy years, finally gets to dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both parts enjoying plenty of melodic interest. Her earliest memory was watching her mother play classical piano. Sydney's father is a jazz pianist, so both jazz and classical influences came at an early age. Her strong sense of artistry has evolved from years of composing music that expresses a wide range of emotions. Sydney is a master at creating musical landscapes which evoke strong imagery.A natural composer, Stevens finished her music composition degree after years of honing her artistry in the absence of outside influences. After completing her formal training in music composition, Sydney graduated cum laude from University of Redlands in California, receiving the prestigious Sigma Alpha Iota Composer's Award. Stevens also studied music composition at University of York, England and with composer and recording artist Bill Douglas in Boulder, Colorado. In addition to her large body of piano works and vocal songs, Sydney has composed music for chamber and symphony orchestra. Born in Los Angeles, California and raised in Seattle, Washington, Stevens currently resides in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. A prolific composer, Stevens also teaches private piano lessons to students of all ages.
