From the renowned international comedy troupe Monty Python, this song is undoubtedly one of their most famous. A silly song? Indeed yes, but that is what Monty Python is all about. Your men's chorus will have a fun time performing this arrangement and your audiences will laugh and love it too. Give one of your performers a chance on the solo to convey the high hopes and grandeur (albeit questionable at times) to fulfill his lifelong dream of being...a lumberjack!

By Hugh Levey. By John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Hugh Levey. 19th Century,Film/TV,Holiday,March,Patriotic. 48 pages. Woodwindly.com #1044090. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1465390).

The Liberty Bell for Saxophone Quartet (SATB or AATB)

The Liberty Bell is ideal for any concert programmes that have an American, patriotic, or military focus. In the UK it will be a popular addition to Film & TV based programmes because of the march's use as the theme for Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Sousa’s The Liberty Bell (March) for Military Band was published in 1893 and became an immediate hit. It was originally scored for: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba, timpani, cymbals, bass drum, snare drum, and strings. However, it is often performed today by a standard Military Band, consisting of woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. An abbreviated version of Liberty Bell was used as the theme tune for the British television comedy sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, which ran from 1969 to 1974.

This arrangement for Sax Quartet consists of the whole March with its Trio section. The dynamic shaping is based on that used by The President’s Own Band, but these are mostly editorial so can be changed by the performers. The full length is 3 minutes 35 seconds, but there is an optional ending at 2 minutes 35 seconds.
