Tu vuò fà l'americano (You Want to Play American) is a Neapolitan language song by Italian singer Renato Carosone.
Carosone wrote the song in collaboration with Nicola Nisa Salerno in 1956. Commissioned by Ricordi director Rapetti for a radio contest, the music was composed by Carosone in a very short time after reading Nisa's lyrics; he immediately believed the song would become a great success.
Carosone's original version of the song was performed by him in the film Totò, Peppino e le fanatiche (directed by Mario Mattoli, 1958). The song was featured in the 1960 Melville Shavelson film It Started in Naples, in which it was sung by Sophia Loren. It was also performed by Rosario Fiorello in the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley.(Wikipedia)

By Janelle Monae. By Charles D. Joseph Ii, Janelle Monae Robinson, Jon Webb, Kellis Earl Parker Jr., and Nathaniel Irvin III. Arranged by Alison Dozier. A Cappella. 11 pages. A.N.D. #998552. Published by A.N.D. (A0.1416963).

This treble a cappella arrangement of the last song on Janelle Monae's Dirty Computer album embraces the duality of loving our country and critiquing it's injustices. The arrangement was created for an LGBTQ+ ensemble and seeks to challenge mysogyny and racism. Woven into the original song are themes from America the Beautiful set in a minor key to evoke the imperfection of a nation and it's citizens that continue to strive for equity. Nods to his purple majesty are included to honor his collaboration on the album.

Composed by Michael Bomier. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 25 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2032825. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862522).

Here are six original pieces, using all the usual forms of the minor mode, as well as each time signature from 2/4 to 7/8. An excellent way to learn new repertoire, traditional American forms and some 21st century musical elements all at once! Every other piece uses the natural minor scale, which, in A minor, is all white keys. Not bad at all ! in between, there are examples of the melodic minor, ascending and descending, the harmonic minor, and the Dorian mode. March, NO accidentals other than the ones required to form the particular scale being used. Still not too bad March, Waltz, Ballad, Ostinato, Hornpipe, and Theme, in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, and 7/8, respectively. One suite can use these related or incremental elements and still have variety within a limited musical range. An object lesson in economy of materials, American-style. Each piece runs less than 3 mins, except the ballad, which the only slow selection. Audio clip is the Hornpipe. MBB.

Composed by Florence B. Price (1887-1953). Arranged by Mena Williams (b. 2002). 20th Century,Classical. Score. 90 pages. Mena C. Williams | The Unfinished Symphony #1020099. Published by Mena C. Williams | The Unfinished Symphony (A0.1440150).

In 1903, Florence B. Price (1887-1953) attended the New England Conservatory for piano, organ, and composition. When Price graduated from NEC in 1910, she returned to Arkansas, bringing music education to her hometown. Unfortunately, due to increased racially charged hostility within Little Rock, Arkansas, Florence Price and many other families who participated in the Great Migration moved to Chicago in 1927, where she found new musical studies and performance opportunities. The opportunity that launched Price’s musical career as a composer was when she won the Wanamaker Prize in 1932 for her Symphony in e minor and became the first Black woman composer to have a major orchestral work performed by an American orchestra. Four years later, Price composed Quintet in a minor for Piano and Strings. Within the Quintet, there are four movements, the “Allegro non troppo”, the “Andante con moto”, the “Juba”, and the “Scherzo”. Quintet in A Minor for Piano and Strings utilizes many of Florence Price’s trademark stylistic ideas, imbuing her music with harmonic freshness and a creative and organic structural approach as well as melodies that reflect her spiritual and cultural heritage, all stemming from how Price’s music brings together the European-classical tradition and African American spirituals and folk tunes. Florence Price was a deeply religious person who brought the music of the African American church and the influences of Romantic composers such as Dvo?ák and Tchaikovsky. Thus further resulting in the overall appeal of Price’s music. The captivating lyricism and juba (a dance that originated from plantation enslaved people in the Southern US) rhythmic devices.

By Andrew Joseph. By Andrew Joseph. Chamber,Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Multicultural,World. Individual part. 2 pages. Insieme Music and Arts Publishing #820488. Published by Insieme Music and Arts Publishing (A0.1224386).

This Fantasia was composed for solo mandolin over the period of around 2 years. This version was adapted for solo flute, which is another favorite instrument of mine. There is a folky/americana characteristic to the main melodic idea, and a bit of minimalism to counter. I have always been interested in the musical connections between folk, baroque, and contemporary musical styles. Hopefully this piece captures some of those connections.

SONATA NO. 9 IN F MINOR
I. Andante amoroso
II. Allegro assai

The composer and harpsichordist Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy was born in Paris in 1744, and died in 1824 in Villers-sur-Mer in Normandie. She married Jacques Brillon de Jouy 22 years her senior, and had two daughters, Cunégonde and Aldegonde, Anne-Louise Brillon de Jouy had a salon in Passy whose guests included the violinist Jean-Pierre Pagin and cellist and composer Luigi Boccherini. Benjamin Franklin was also a frequent vistor and Madame Brillon has an extensive correspondence with him, including the period after his stay in Paris during the American Revolution .Many of her compositions were purchased in 1957 by the American Philosophical Society of Philadelphia, in honor of this friendship.

In 2021, French Pianist Nicolas Horvath recorded a landmark CD for Grand Piano (GP872-73) of Brillon’s keyboard noatas with extensive notes by Aliette de Laleu, Deborah Hayes and Nicolas Horvath and Christine de Pas The keyboard sonatas published here are intended to document this reocrding.

The twelve numbered sonatas, marked “Troisième Recueil de Sonates pour le pianoforte ou clavecin avec accompagnement d’un viiolon ad libitumâ€, are in the hand of a copyist and are contained in a bound volume labeled as her Troisième Recueil (‘Third Collection’) and dedicated to Mesdemoiselles Brillon. Evidently the composer at some point chose these 12 sonatas to be copied as a sampling of her work for her two daughters.
