Composed by W. A. Mozart (1756 – 1791). Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Classical,Contest,Festival,Standards. Score and parts. 125 pages. Jmsgu3 #800938. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1202559).

Sonata No. 6, “Durnitz” for String Orchestra

Score and performance parts:  Score: 66 pages. Duration: ca. 29:28

Mozart's Sonata in D major, K. 284, also known as the Durnitz Sonata, is a solo piano piece composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1775. It is one of Mozart's more complex and ambitious sonatas and is generally regarded as one of his greatest works for the instrument.

The sonata is divided into three movements:
1.    Allegro - The first movement is a fast-paced and energetic sonata-allegro form, characterized by its lively theme and virtuosic passages. The movement begins with a bold and dramatic opening statement, followed by a series of contrasting themes and variations. The development section explores new harmonic and rhythmic territory, while the recapitulation brings the movement full circle with a restatement of the main themes.

2.    Rondeau en Polonaise - The second movement is a graceful and elegant rondo in the style of a polonaise, a popular dance of the time. The main theme is a lilting melody that is first presented by the right hand and then repeated with variations throughout the movement. The middle section features a contrasting theme in a minor key, which is then developed and expanded upon in the latter half of the movement.

3.    Theme and Variations - The final movement is a set of six variations on a theme, which is introduced at the beginning of the movement. Each variation explores a different aspect of the theme, from playful embellishments to dramatic flourishes. The final variation brings the piece to a rousing and triumphant close.
Overall, Mozart's Sonata in D major, K. 284, is a masterful example of the composer's virtuosity and innovation and remains a beloved and influential work in the piano repertoire.

Mozart's Sonata in D major, K. 284 is also known as the DĂŒrnitz Sonata because it is believed to have been composed for Count Johann Joseph Anton von DĂŒrnitz, an accomplished amateur flautist who was a patron of Mozart.

Mozart was in Munich in 1775, and he met DĂŒrnitz there. According to Mozart's letters to his father, DĂŒrnitz played the flute very well, and Mozart was impressed by his abilities. It is believed that Mozart composed this sonata specifically for DĂŒrnitz, who may have performed it with Mozart accompanying him on the piano.

No concrete evidence supports the theory that the sonata was named after DĂŒrnitz, but it is widely accepted as the most likely explanation for the nickname. In any case, the sonata remains one of Mozart's most popular and beloved works for solo piano.

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Classical,Concert,Sacred,Standards,World. Score and parts. 23 pages. Jmsgu3 #3536083. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549785).

Mozart's Romanze from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525 for Piano Trio (Violin, Cello and Piano). Duration: ca. 7:00. Score: 11 pages. Violin: 4 pages, Cello: 2 pages, piano: 4 pages. This is one of the most beloved works in all of Mozart's catalog making it a strong choice for a recital, meditation, nightclub, church or wedding reception.

Eine kleine Nachtmusik

Eine kleine Nachtmusik is also at the same time known as Serenade No. 13. Indeed, we find it listed in the Köchel Catalog as K. 525. With this in mind, Mozart composed the piece by all means in 1787 probably as a commission. To clarify, the title translates as a little night-music. Mozart originally scored the work in particular for an ensemble of two violins, viola, and cello with double bass (optional). In modern times the work is certainly usually performed by string orchestras, though it is often in fact performed by a string quartet – with or without double bass.

Publication

A point often overlooked is that the name of the work derives from the entry Mozart made in his private journal. He wrote: Eine kleine Nacht-Musik. This explains that Mozart was probably not naming the piece, but only entering a record that he had completed it. Nevertheless, the work was published by and large in 1827. It had been sold to the publisher for the most part in 1799 by Mozart's widow Constanze. Nowadays, it is on balance extensively performed and recorded. Some critics ultimately claim that it is the most popular of all Mozart's works.

Early Years

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791), was a productive and significant Austrian classical composer. Mozart displayed unusual musical capability from his earliest childhood. It seems like he was already capable on keyboard and violin at the age of two. He started composing at age five and performed before European royalty.

Middle Period

At 17, Mozart was working as a musician at the Salzburg Royal court but grew agitated from boredom and traveled to search for a more interesting job. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was summarily dismissed from his Salzburg job. Nevertheless, he decided to stay in the capital (Vienna), where he achieved much fame but little economic haven. Throughout his concluding years in the Capital, he composed many of his most famous works: symphonies, operas, and concertos.

Final Period

The conditions surrounding his death have been much the subject of much conjecture and mythology. He composed more than 600 works, many recognized as highpoints of symphonic, chamber, concertante, choral and operatic. He is among the most everlastingly popular of classical composers, and his impact is substantial on succeeding Western art music.

Probabaly the most well known of Mozart’s piano Sonatas. The Piano Sonata No. 16 in C major, K. 545, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was described by Mozart himself in his own thematic catalogue as for beginners, and it is sometimes known by the nickname Sonata facile or Sonata semplice. I have arranged the first movement. Mozart’s tempo is crotchet/quarter note = 126: I have reduced the tempo to 120..it seems less rushed for wind instruments! Written for natural horn in C basso (alt horn in F provided) Good practise for scales and arpeggios!! I have added some judicious notes of my own, here and there, to thicken the harmony, and also taken some liberties with the semiquaver passage in bars 14-17 etc.

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Michael Bomier. Classical,Concert,Standards. Score and parts. 9 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #3667951. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862671).

This Mozart piece was a favorite of Alfred Brendel. It has more sweep and scope than most of his other piano music and most of the sonatas as well. Thus, it was favored as a showpiece. Our setting uses all the trademarks of our house style: no clef changes in the middle of ANY measure, labeled notes above three ledger lines, written-out ornamentation, the re-distribution of various notes into the opposite hand to facilitate a gesture, and a minimum of interpretive markings and multiple voices, so as to make sure you know where each New Note Begins, and less attention paid to how long it lasts. This piece has a repeat at the three-minute mark, which requires a turnback from the top of pg. 3 to the beginning, a bit outside of our usual practice, but unavoidable here, UNLESS one considers that repeat as optional, and avoids it, which Brendel does indeed do. Full running time at our conservative tempo is 13 mins+. Pedal this deeply for a resonant effect on all the sweeping arpeggios, or use it sparingly for a dryer, more early Classical Period sort of effect. MBB

Mozart's music is often described as being hard to play because of its thinness, its transparency, and lightness of texture. he compensates for the lack of thunderous chords and bravura with melody, and Syncopation. This piece abounds in both, especially the latter.
To further the readability of these L-R alternating syncopated figures, we have used a rhythm which has fewer rests, which reflects the performance style of Emil Gilels, the Russian pianist known for his golden sound. One of the ways he achieved that sound was frankly by playing through many rests in Mozart, Beethoven and other composers whose scores were the vehicles for his sound. Weird, but true.
All the original rhythms have been doubled for better visual clarity. Our score has fewer 16th-rests and more stemmed-together notes. When the syncopation is unavoidable and required, we use detached 16ths similar to what a vocalist would find in an opera recitative. The cadenzas are written out in full-size notes, and fingered for logical harmonic and scalar groupings. The ornamentation is also written out, similar to what one might in a grayed-out ossia box from some commercial publishers. MBB.

Composed by Bela Bartok. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Classical,Folk. Score and parts. 46 pages. RayThompsonMusic #643066. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1038136).

The complete set arranged wind dectet and bass Romanian Folk Dances Sz. 56, BB 68 is a suite of six short piano pieces composed by BĂ©la BartĂłk in 1915. He later orchestrated it for small ensemble in 1917 as Sz. 68, BB 76. It is based on seven Romanian tunes from Transylvania, originally played on fiddle or shepherd's flute. The original name for the piece was titled Romanian Folk Dances from Hungary but was later changed by BartĂłk when Transylvania became part of Romania in 1920. It is nowadays available in the 1971 edition which is written with key signatures although BartĂłk rarely ever used key signatures. This set of dances consists of six movements and, according to the composer, it should take four minutes and three seconds to perform, but most professional pianists take up to five minutes. The list of the movements is as follows (with the original Hungarian title listed first, the most commonly known Romanian title second, and the English translation in parentheses): Bot tĂĄnc / Jocul cu bĂątă (Stick Dance)The melody of the first movement, according to BartĂłk, came from the MezƑszabad (present-day Voiniceni) village that was part of MezƑcsĂĄvĂĄs (present-day Ceuașu de CĂąmpie) commune which was located in the Maros-Tordaadministrative county within Transylvania, and he first heard it when two gypsy violinists were playing it. BrĂąul (Sash Dance)The second movement is a typical dance from Romania called BrĂąul, for which traditionally a sash or a waistband was used. This melody came from Egres (present-day Igriș), in the Banat region. TopogĂł / Pe loc (In One Spot)The third dance comes also from Egres (Igriș), but its theme is much darker and its melody recreates Middle Eastern instruments, such as the flute.[4] BucsumĂ tĂĄnc / Buciumeana (Dance from Bucsum)The fourth dance came from Bucsony, AlsĂł-FehĂ©r County (today Bucium, Alba county in Romania) RomĂĄn polka / Poarga RomĂąnească (Romanian Polka)The fifth dance is an old Romanian dance similar to the Polka and comes from BelĂ©nyes (present-day BeiuƟ, in Bihor county), near the border between Hungary and Romania. AprĂłzĂł / Mărunțel (Fast Dance)The sixth and last dance is formed by two different melodies: the first one comes from BelĂ©nyes (present-day Beiuș) and the second one comes from the then named Nyagra (present-day Neagra) village within the Palotailva (present-day Lunca Bradului) commune. Both on the orchestral version and on the original piano version, the final two dances are performed attacca-without a break between movements.
