This fun, feel-good song is impossible to get out of your head, and your audience will end up equally addicted to this arrangement for two-violin and cello trio! Featuring the hypnotic groove, lush harmonic layers, and lightning-fast vocal stylings of the original, this version is sure to get your audience singing along. Rated advanced mainly for a number of tricky interlocking rhythms throughout (and some high notes in the violin parts). I would definitely recommend practicing this first and not sightreading it on the gig! Notes On the Sheet Music

Melody

The melody alters slightly on repeating for subsequent verses etc. These are notated using smaller bracketed note heads and should only be played/sung on the appropriate repeats. The decision was made to not notate the final chorus as sung however when performed/sung the final chorus could be ad-libbed to emulate the original should the performer desire.

Structure

The sheet music follows the structure of the song as heard in the recording. If the repeats are not obvious each section (Verse/PreChorus/Chorus) is marked by boxed texts for ease of navigation.

Length

One of my main aims in arranging popular titles is to make the effort to try and minimise the amount of pages required. As a Musician I hate having pages and pages of music that could have been condensed using repeats and other structure markings. This arrangement fully utilises these and this is part of the reason why the decision was made note to notate the final chorus as sung in the recording.

This arrangement was commissioned for, and premiered by, Voices Co. Pop A Cappella Academy. It is versatile and catchy, and has been performed by our Vocal Bands as well as our larger ensembles. This arrangement has the drive and momentum of the original song but with delicate moments, and some 5-part harmony as the song progresses. 

VOCAL LAYOUT:

The melody, or lead line, is divided amongst the vocal parts to give variety. The B.G (background) parts replicate the instrumental accompaniment of the original track, filling out the arrangement and creating the contemporary texture that is at the heart of Pop A Cappella. When it's performed, it should be heavy on the rhythm and bass! The Rhythm (Beatbox) and Bass should be a feature, and they provide the arrangement with the groove and vibe it needs.

The dynamics give an indication which vocal parts should be strongest at any given moment, but changes may need to be made depending on the number / balance of singers, and the strengths of each vocal section. As a general rule, the melody or lead should be strongest, followed by any harmony parts (those with lyrics), followed by any background parts (Oos / Ahs / Dms, etc).

The full arrangement is scored for SSAB and Vocal Percussion (beatboxing). The song also works as SATB and could be transposed into lower key to help with some of the higher passages.

RHYTHM and BASS:

This Beatboxing part is suitable for moderate to advanced performers, and is scored used drum notation. Specific Beatboxing notes are included in their own section.

If your ensemble is without a bass or a beatboxer you could consider the following options:

- Use electric bass guitar playing the bass part

- Use a drum kit or drum box (Cajon)

- Use a piano to provide some simple background accompaniment
