Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1218802

Composed by Hugh Levey. Arranged by Hugh Levey. Blues,Instructional,Jazz. Score and Parts. 37 pages. Woodwindly.com #815224. Published by woodwindly.com (A0.1218802).

Big Band: 5 Saxes, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Rhthym Section

This blues with a swing is suitable for bands of all levels. It opens with a fanfare-like passage for saxes, followed by trumpets and trombones, before getting into the swinging blues groove. After the first two choruses, the opening returns as a bridge passage before the open for solos middle section.

Solos are based on a 12 bar blues pattern and should be 24 bars long. A sample written out solo is included in Tenor Sax 1 and Trombone 2, for those who are less confident at improvising. The main blues returns with a bit more pizazz before ending on the fanfare like passage for the whole band.

Duration: 2'10 to 4' depending on number of solos.

SKU: A0.891216

Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Gunnar Madsen, Laurie Betts Hughes. Children,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 14 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3106871. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891216).

If you are looking to lighten your concert, to program real music, or a piece with rapid text delivery satisfying to mid-level treble choirs and treble community choirs, bring this hilarious 3 minute piece to your outstanding accompanist-pianist and your developing ensemble.  Debuted for choir during an educational outreach concert for children with families, Mozart's At the Window is also an effective selection or encore for a Mozart concert, or standing on its own.  Piece features lots of vocal doubling and is fully supported by a pianistic reduction-- this piece shines with an amazing accompanist.

The choral arranger writes: After getting absolutely sick of the inane music I'd been playing for my young children in the car, I was elated to discover Gunnar Madsen's CD I'm Growing featuring Mozart's At the Window.  The kids were delighted with this funny song about some naughty kid, and my husband and I were delighted with the enormous improvement of musical quality in our vehicle.  It was shortly thereafter that this choral arrangement was born.

Gunnar writes: In my first music theory class in college, the teacher and the students were recalling the silly ways they'd been taught to remember classical melodies when they were young.  One of them was for Mozart's 40th symphony (which I'd never heard) which consisted of Now Mozart's at the window - Let him in, Let him in, Let him in.  What an ear-worm!  For 25 years now I've dreamt of expanding that ditty into something more substantial, and now I'm proud to present the finished piece.  I'm really going to get a kick of sending this one to my teacher!

Also available in SATB voicing

SKU: A0.802625

Composed by Jeremiah Savile. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 7 pages. Peet du Toit #6048841. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802625).

Here's a Health unto His Majesty is an English patriotic song or glee. It is used as the regimental march
of the Royal Army Medical Corps having been selected by Brigadier Hugh Llewellyn Glyn Hughes in 1948.
Note the song is never Here's A Health unto Her Majesty.

It dates from the reign of King Charles II, and was composed by Jeremiah Savile, a prominent teacher
for the voyce or viol during the English Commonwealth and Restoration in London. The music was first
published in John Playford's The Musical Companion of 1667, arranged for three voices; treble, tenor
and bass, together with the lyrics for single verse:

Here's a health unto His Majesty,
With a fa la la la la la la,
Confusion to his enemies,
With a fa la la la la la la.
And he who would not drink his health,
We wish him neither wit nor wealth,
Nor yet a rope to hang himself.
With a fal lal la la la la la la la la,
With a fal lal la la la la la.
The song became popular again during the near-fatal illness of King George V in 1928, sometimes being sung in theatres before God Save the King.
