Guitar Ensemble Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.797856

Composed by Bruce Welch, Hank Brian Marvin, and Hank Marvin. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Contemporary. Score and parts. 27 pages. Derek Hasted #6735337. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.797856).

ALL DAY - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE - Score and Score+Tab
For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.

Derek Hasted writes This uplifting piece by The Shadows makes a really accessible guitar quartet for an early intermediate ensemble, and a foot-tapping crowd-pleaser for a school recital or as an contrasting item in an adult concert.

The arrangement is presented in score only and in score + TAB to open it up to classical, acoustic and electric guitarists. Each section is repeated, so the entire piece is surprisingly substantial, yet easy to learn and play.

The parts rise slightly in complexity from Guitar 4 to Guitar 1, but the arrangement is within the reach of even fairly inexperienced players.

I hope you enjoy performing this!

FOOT TAPPER (The Shadows) - 3 GUITARS or LARGE ENSEMBLE
For Classical Guitar - also suits Acoustic Guitar or Electric Guitar

Derek Hasted writes It’s a bit of a blast from the past, but this is a really “under-the-fingers” piece that lives up to its name.

My arrangement for 3 early intermediate guitars is devoid of the drum part, so a few extra notes have been added and a few empty bars removed, so that continuity is assured where the short drum breaks of the original took place.

That apart, the speed, the key and the structure of the original are all here.

Guitar 1 is the tune, and I’ve lifted it up an octave in the slow section so it’s easier to hear amongst the strummed chords, which can be quite heavy sounding on a classical guitar.

Guitar 2 is the rhythm guitar part - all the chords are named, so that a school ensemble teacher, for example, can suggest 3- or 4-string versions of the big chords here. And you may find the usual first position G chord is less tiring than the barré version here, though it will sound a little bass-heavy.

Either or both of the treble clef and bass clef versions of Guitar 3 can be played. In a large ensemble, having both will give a bigger sound.

This exudes foot tapping happiness…

I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Thanks, John.  He'll Have to Go is an American country and pop hit recorded on October 15, 1959, by Jim Reeves. The song, released in the fall of 1959, went on to become a massive hit in both genres early in 1960. The song is about a man who's talking by telephone to the woman he loves, when he realizes that another man is with her. The recording features a small group of musicians: Floyd Cramer on piano, Marvin Hughes on the vibraphone, Bob Moore on bass, Buddy Harman on drums, Hank Garland on guitar, and the Anita Kerr Singers providing the background vocals. Country music historian Bill Malone noted that He'll Have to Go in most respects represented a conventional country song, but its arrangement and the vocal chorus put this recording in the country pop vein. In addition, Malone lauded Reeves' vocal styling - lowered to its natural resonant level to project the caressing style that became famous - as being why many people refer to him as the singer with the velvet touch..

It was quickly recognized for its show-business potential outside Broadway and was picked up by popular singers to include in their performances in their club and television appearances. Both female and male singers have made it an inclusion in their recorded albums to great effect.

Thanks, John. The Way We Were is a song by American singer Barbra Streisand from her fifteenth studio album of the same name. Its lyrics detail the melancholic relationship between the two main characters in the 1973 film of the same name. American composer and producer Marvin Hamlisch created the final melody for The Way We Were, which initially was a problem between himself and the singer. Streisand had asked Hamlisch to produce a composition in minor key, but he instead wrote it in major key due to his fear of the song's lyrics being revealed too quickly.

SKU: A0.1036020

Composed by Brian Bennett, Bruce Welch, Hank Brian Marvin, and John Henry Rostill. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Blues,Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 21 pages. Derek Hasted #641118. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1036020).

THE RISE and FALL of FLINGEL BUNT - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLE
For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.

Derek Hasted writes What a wonderful title - the story behind the title is explained succinctly on the Wikipedia website.

This bluesy piece by The Shadows makes a really accessible guitar quartet for an intermediate ensemble, and a foot-tapping crowd-pleaser for a school recital or as an contrasting item in an adult concert.

There are some x-headed notes - simply clap your hands together on the beat and I am sure the audience will join in - they used to when the Hampshire Guitar Orchestra played it - frequently failing to clap at the right time at all!

Guitars 2 and 3 are the easiest lines - perfect for the less-experienced players in a mixed ability group.
Guitar 4 has a fun and funky bass line.
Guitar 1 goes quite high, but I have presented the notes at pitch and also in 8va notation so that your reading of the “on-the-body-notes” is clear and error-free.

The soundfile on the publisher’s website is that of Hampshire Guitar Orchestra live in concert.

I hope you enjoy performing this!
