A Study in Symbols is a piano solo arrangement of the 1901 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  I have turned this piece into a Charleston dance, inspired by the original Charleston song which created this genre.  I have taken the Jacobs-Bond simple 8 bar chromatic theme, altered the rhythm, and embedded it into the chords of my own opening chorus theme.   Everything else I totally made up to create my Charleston in true 1920's style.  This includes a new contrasting B theme in the relative minor key for the verse.  The song is in ABA format with a repeat.  Full of energy and history, and great fun to play, this piece works for dance, pleasure, or a showstopping concert encore.

In The Meadow is a piano solo arrangement of the 1925 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  This arrangement only uses one bar of the Jacobs-Bond song then goes on a jazz riff, then quotes a second bar of the original song, then goes off on another riff.  The same two bars get sporadically reused twice more in the piece to bridge into yet more riffs.  A fun jazz piece that is both lilting and passionate while it constantly shifts moods.

Cupid's Home is a piano solo arrangement of the 1898 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. I have freely arranged this into a pulsing light jazz piece with an Intro, three sections, and a Coda; which each build in volume and rhythmic intensity. The Intro is straight from the Jacobs-Bond piece; it is the only part of the song that is. For section 1 I rhythmically augment (double the note values) of the melody and add a pulsing drone beat in the LH. In section 2 I double time the melody and syncopate it, then reharmonize it, and add harmonic movement to the still pulsing bass line. Section 3 adds syncopation and stride to the LH. The Coda is an extended riff and cadence. The Bird Song is a piano solo arrangement of the 1899 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano.  This is mostly a new composition inspired by the Jacobs-Bond piece.  I took the tune's 8-bar vocal melody and changed several of the notes then put it in the Left Hand.  In the Right Hand I created twittering birds.  The ending section elongates the final cadence into a dozen measures of twittering and posturing, followed by a Coda in a new Time Signature of rest and twittered farewells.  This makes a simple, delightful, lilting dance.
