Small Ensemble Clarinet,Drum Set,Guitar,Horn,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.775316

By David Cook. By Domenico Bucchino, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Bill Wilson. Rock. Score and parts. 18 pages. Alexander Wilson #6549823. Published by Alexander Wilson (A0.775316).

Eleanor Rigby, by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, is supposed to be about loneliness and old age. Our treatment of this song is inspired by considerably stronger, more insistent, elderly people than those about whom the Beatles sang. A Pandemica Driveway Band arrangement for clarinet in Bb, French horn in F, tuba, drum set, and guitar. This arrangement was written by tuba player Bill Wilson and performed by the Pandemica Driveway Band in southeastern Michigan driveways, parks and backyards during the COVID-19 pandemic. Performance time is approximately 2:30. Visit our website, www.tootsuitebrasspublishing.com, for a catalog of our arrangements available through sheetmusicplus.com.

SKU: A0.864795

By David Cook. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Dan Severino. Rock. Score. 3 pages. Piano Teacher Press #6075583. Published by Piano Teacher Press (A0.864795).

Eleanor Rigby is an example of a song that demonstrates The Beatles evolution of moving from standard rock and roll to more experimental and alternative sounds.  A song on the topics of depressing loneliness was not a common topic coming from rock bands in the 1960's.  However, being a teenager in the 60's, the minor melody caught my attention and became one of my favorite Beatles songs.

All that said, this arrangement features staccato chords and a melody that alternates between staccato and legato phrases.  I wrote it at an intermediate level so it would be playable by teen piano students.  I think teen students that are beginning to expand emotionally will be attracted to Eleanor Rigby.

I see this arrangement being popular for family gatherings, and recitals and well as self-satisfaction.  Also, adult students and amateurs would be attracted to this arrangement.

Instrumental Duet Clarinet,Instrumental Duet,Viola - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.588100

By David Cook. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by David McKeown. Rock. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #5303235. Published by David McKeown (A0.588100).

Eleanor Rigby first appeared on the Beatles’ 1966 album, Revolver. There has been much speculation over the identity of Eleanor Rigby, and a gravestone bearing that name has been discovered close to where Paul McCartney grew up in Liverpool. But Paul McCartney insists that he chose the natural-sounding name as a combination of a friend’s name and a shop he noticed in Bristol. Indeed, the original working title of the song was Miss Daisy Hawkins.

This version of Eleanor Rigby is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Viola. The YouTube sample above is the Clarinet version of this duet.

Musicians at an intermediate level will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performance. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing.

SKU: A0.1041526

By David Cook. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Film/TV,Pop. Score and parts. 43 pages. Kevin Riley #646280. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.1041526).

Eleanor Rigby is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1966 album Revolver. It was also issued on a double A-side single, paired with Yellow Submarine. The song was written primarily by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney. Eleanor Rigby continued the transformation of the Beatles from a mainly rock and roll- and pop-oriented act to a more experimental, studio-based band. With a double string quartet arrangement by George Martin and lyrics providing a narrative on loneliness, it broke sharply with popular music conventions, both musically and lyrically. The song topped singles charts in Australia, Belgium, Canada and New Zealand. This version has parts for Saxophones but any important phrases have been cued in other instruments.
