Brass Ensemble - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.802610

By Harry Belafonte. By Irving Burgie and William Attaway. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Pop. Score and parts. 35 pages. Peet du Toit #5990599. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802610).

Jamaican folk music and many popular genres, such as mento, ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub music, dancehall, reggae fusion and related styles. It is a work song, from the point of view of dock workers working the night shift loading bananas onto ships. The lyrics describe how daylight has come, their shift is over, and they want their work to be counted up so that they can go home.

The best-known version was released by American singer Harry Belafonte in 1956 and later became one of his signature songs.

I am happy to present this arrangement to you in the original key. Other percussive instruments may be used, including steal drums, using the basic rhythms contained herein.

Guitar - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1294451

By Harry Belafonte. By Irving Burgie. Arranged by Derek Hasted. Pop,Traditional. 39 pages. Derek Hasted #884839. Published by Derek Hasted (A0.1294451).

JAMAICA FAREWELL - easy arrangement for 4 GUITARS/large ensemble
For Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.

Derek Hasted writes There are 3 ways to play my straightforward and accessible arrangement which comprises melody, countermelody, accompaniment and bass.

1) For a mixed ability ensemble, simply play the intro (up to letter A), repeat 2 or more times from A to B, and then jump to E. The melody requires a little confidence up the neck, the other parts stay in first position - each part has a fixed role.

2) If you play the full version, each of the 4 parts takes a verse of melody, countermelody, accompaniment and bass in turn.

3) If you play the “+ percussion effects” version, there’s a simple “drum break” in the last two verses, and everyone has a chance to play the effects.

For a larger ensemble, allocate parts from both arrangements - everything fits together!

I hope you enjoy performing this well-known piece.

This is one of a large and growing range of accessible ensembles from experienced arranger Derek Hasted, and is supplied as full score and parts. Derek's website at
