Till There Was You is a show tune written in 1950 by Meredith Willson, originally entitled Till I Met You. It was originally recorded October 25, 1950, by Meredith Willson & his Orchestra and Eileen Wilson. The song was retitled and used in his musical play The Music Man (1957), and also appeared in the 1962 movie version.In 1959, the song became the first of four US Top 40 hits for Anita Bryant. Till There Was You was also recorded by the Beatles in 1963 and released on their second album With the Beatles (1963) (United Kingdom) and Meet the Beatles! (1964) (United States). It was the only song from a Broadway show released by the band. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. Speak Low (1943) is a popular song composed by Kurt Weill, with lyrics by Ogden Nash. It was introduced by Mary Martin and Kenny Baker in the Broadway musical One Touch of Venus (1943). The 1944 hit single was by Guy Lombardo and his orchestra, with vocal by Billy Leach. Actress Ava Gardner (dubbed by Eileen Wilson) and Dick Haymes sang the song in the feature film version of One Touch of Venus (1948). The tune is a jazz standard that has been widely recorded by both vocal artists and instrumentalists. It is generally performed with a Latin flair such as a beguine, but just to be different, John and I arranged it as a medium-tempo ballad - we are very happy with the result. Corcovado (known in English as Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars) is a bossa nova and jazz standard song written by Antônio Carlos Jobim in 1960. An English lyric was later written by Gene Lees. The Portuguese title refers to the Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro. Tony Bennett recorded the first popular English cover of Quiet Nights. This version features a root-based chord blocking that we developed from a lead sheet. We added a few left-hand fills just for fun and make it our own and you can play it as-written or modify as you wish! Enjoy!
