In 1930 the musical Whoopee had Eddie Cantor and Ruth Etting perform this delightful, fun piece. The song, like so many others, had a verse, but only the chorus is performed these days. In 1957 the American singer Nina Simone released her version of the song ... and it quickly became her signature piece.
