The song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, who received the 1980 Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. It is her fourth of four Platinum records, and is considered her greatest international hit.

However, instead of 32 bars, it has 64, plus an 8-bar tag. The tag is often dropped when the song is performed. The tune, like many of Porter's, shifts between a major and minor feeling. The A section is in the key of B-flat minor before modulating to B-flat major and back. When the song came out in 1930, a newspaper labelled it as 'in bad taste'; radio stations avoided broadcasting it. Today it is a jazz standard.

This is a song which was originally written as a wedding ballad. It can be performed in a style similar to pop/soft rock - i.e. Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond but also can be done by a Tenor in a more Classical Crossover style. The song was composed by British songwriter Tim J Spencer (PRS) and forms part of the Tim Spencer Songbook.
