The song Iko, Iko was originally written by James Crawford in 1953 using phrases he heard being chanted by Mardi Gras Indians and setting some of those phrases to music. In 1965 the Dixie Cups added some elements of their own and the song became an international hit. Dr. John further popularized the song with his version of Iko, Iko in 1972.

This is a set of parts. There are two unison Jumbie Jam parts in this set. Great for the classroom. A set including a single part, a piano accompaniment, and a Jumbie Jam diagram is also available.

Arranged for solo or unison Jumbie Jam steel drum tuned in G and includes a piano accompaniment.

This is a simplified version of Iko, Iko arranged for beginning Jumbie Jam tuned in G. There is some rhythmic syncopation. Suggested sticking patterns are simplified with the beginning player in mind.

This song has roots in a Mardi Gras chant that ostensibly came from some unspecified Native American language. James Sugar Boy Crawford turned it into a song, and his band, Sugar Boy and his Cane Cutters (southern Louisiana had a lot of that) recorded it in 1953 as Jock-a-Mo, which may mean kiss my ass or a defiant response to that effect. It was recorded again, as kind of a whim, in 1964 by the girl trio The Dixie Cups, who made it a hit. It has since been endlessly covered by everyone from Cyndi Lauper to The Grateful Dead.
This arrangement is essentially solo variations on the main melody backed by horn rhythms. If you want to make it go on endlessly, it's a simple three-chord tune (actually, mostly two chords) that lends itself to simple improv. It's arranged for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba.

This arrangement of Iko Iko is written in D major and follows a form that is somewhere between the versions recorded by The Dixie Cups and Dr. John. It features a Bo Diddley New Orleans groove throughout along with an open solo section at the end of the chart for any player to have a blow over. Brass ranges are generally moderate (although some D6s are written in the trumpets and A5s in the trombones) and rhythm section parts are notated throughout.
