String quartet or String Orchestra.  In this humble tribute to Ralph Vaughan Williams, I offer this Fantasia on another theme from Thomas Tallis's contribution in 1567 to Archbishop Parker's Psalter: his Seventh Tune for Psalm 52. My Fantasia tries to reflect David's feelings of disgust, anger and sadness, but also his calm confidence in God.

Why do you boast of your evil deeds, you champion of malice? 
All day long you plot harm; your tongue is like a sharpened razor,
you master of deceit. etc.

Any similarities to RVW's piece are entirely deliberate. DURATION: 5-6 minutes.

Trouble Is a Friend is a song by Australian recording artist and actress Lenka from her debut studio album, Lenka (2008). It was released on 1 September 2009 as the album's second and final single. The song was written by Thomas Salter and Lenka. It was used in an episode from the fifth season of the popular medical drama Grey's Anatomy, teen drama television series 90210 and in the 2010 film Easy A.

In 2024, the Philippine singer Shaira released a song titled “Selos.� However, it was discovered that “Selos� used the melody from Australian singer-songwriter Lenka’s 2008 pop song “Trouble is a Friend.� Despite having different lyrics in Tagalog, the unauthorized use of Lenka’s melody raised copyright concerns. As a result, Shaira’s song was voluntarily removed from streaming platforms on March 19, 2024. Shaira’s recording label, AHS Channel, acknowledged the infringement and is currently working on securing a cover license for “Selos.� They expressed their apologies to Lenka and thanked those who enjoyed Shaira’s cover song.

Josh Groban's musical style is often placed in the classical category, so it was perfectly natural to take this tune a step further and design it for recitals, seminars, recruiting tours, and for the advanced players in one's studio. Your accompanist will like the way the pizzicato rhythmic figures in the string section have been fleshed out with notes on strong beats to help make the rhythm fit the hand better.

Of course, it would be a great show-piece for social and civic events; its inspiring message would even serve in church-related functions. It may take a bit longer to get under the fingers, as anything worth showing off would demand. Keep your eye open for performance opportunities for social groups tackling issues like depression and self-image.

Arranged in the key of D major, this is an intermediate work for violins. While some technical challenges may cause concern in the middle section, everything keeps your fingers in comfortable positions on the neck. Most of your time will be spent on the middle pair of strings. You might take a look at this same arrangement of mine in the original key of E Major; even in that key, this is still an intermediate work. This is one of those times when nothing beats the songwriter's original key.

This would be a phenomenal closer for recitals or concerts. A great show-piece for social and civic events, its inspiring message would even serve in church-related functions. LH play mostly in F position with movement to Gm twice by extending thumb to reach interval of 3rd between fingers 1-2.  RH moves frequently by turning thumb behind finger 4, crossing 2 over thumb, or contracting/opening hand mid-phrase.
