By The Ritchie Family. By Ary Barroso and S.K. Russell. Arranged by Timothy Stapay/Liberace. Film/TV,Jazz,Latin,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 6 pages. Timothy Stapay #814316. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1217783).

This arrangement of Brazil is written as performed by famous piano artist, Liberace.  This is the same version that he performed on his emmy-award winning TV. show and in concerts around the world.

Aquarela do Brasil (Portuguese: [akwaˈɾɛlÉ du bɾaˈziw], 'Watercolor of Brazil'), written by Ary Barroso in 1939 and known in the English-speaking world simply as Brazil, is one of the most famous Brazilian songs.

Ary Barroso wrote Aquarela do Brasil in early 1939, when he was prevented from leaving his home one rainy night due to a heavy storm. Its title, a reference to watercolor painting, is a clear reference to the rain. He also wrote Três lágrimas (Three Teardrops) on that same night, before the rain ended.

Describing the song in an interview to Marisa Lira, of the newspaper Diário de Notícias, Barroso said that he wanted to free the samba away from the tragedies of life, of the sensual scenario already so explored. According to the composer, he felt all the greatness, the value and the wealth of our land, reliving the tradition of the national panels.

Władziu Valentino Liberace (May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor.  A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, he enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!

Lyrics:

Brazil, where hearts were entertaining June
We stood beneath an amber moon
And softly murmured Someday soon
We kissed and clung together

Then, tomorrow was another day
The morning found me miles away
With still a million things to say
Now, when twilight dims the skies above
Recalling thrills of our love
There's one thing I'm certain of
Return, I will, to old Brazil

Then, tomorrow was another day
The morning found me miles away
With still a million things to say
Now, when twilight dims the sky above
Recalling thrills of our love
There's one thing that I'm certain of
Return, I will, to old Brazil
That old Brazil
Man, it's old in Brazil
Brazil, Brazil

By The Ritchie Family. By Ary Barroso and S.K. Russell. Arranged by Matthew Naughtin. 20th Century,Latin,Multicultural,Pop,World. Score and Parts. 117 pages. Matthew Naughtin #862632. Published by Matthew Naughtin (A0.1270201).

On a stormy night in early 1939 Ary Barroso looked at a watercolor painting of a rainy landscape in his Rio de Janiero home and decided to stay home an write a song--in fact, he wrote two songs. The first, inspired by the painting, was Aquarela do Brasil ('Watercolor of Brazil'). He also wrote Três lágrimas ('Three Teardrops') that same night, before the rain ended. Aquarela do Brasil gained international fame after it was included in Walt Disney's 1942 cartoon Saludos Amigos, and became the first Brazilian song to be played over a million times on American radio in an English version by songwriter Bob Russell. The song's celebration of Brazil's great qualities marked the creation of a new patriotic genre within samba, known as samba-exaltação (exaltation samba).

This rhythmically vibrant arrangement presents the song in all its joyous exhilaration. Score and all parts are included.
The instrumentation: 2 Flutes (Fl. 2 d. Piccolo), 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb (Cl. 2 d. Bass Clarinet), 2 Bassoons, 4 Horns, 2 Trumpets in Bb, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, 3 Percussion, Harp, Strings.

Please contact me by email at jfries@ptd.net to make a special request or to find out all that I have to offer and to express your comments or concerns. Thanks, John.  Ary Barroso wrote Aquarela do Brasil in early 1939, when he was prevented from leaving his home one night due to a heavy storm. Its title, a reference to a watercolor painting in his room, is a clear reference to the rain. Initially, he wrote the first three melancholy chords and the samba beat that follows highlights the sound of the rain. According to him, the rest came naturally, music and lyrics at once. He declared to have felt like another person after writing the song so easily.
