Steal Away to Jesus is an American nineteenth century spiritual. This version is arranged as a duet for two Cellos.

The words and music of Steal Away to Jesus are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. The words have a meaning beyond the spiritual, with hidden references to the Underground Railway of the time that helped escaped slaves cross to Canada. In more recent times Steal Away to Jesus was arranged by Michael Tippett in 1944 and recorded famously by Mahalia Jackson and Nat King Cole.

Beethoven's joyous, jokey and rhythmic Rondo is the finale of his Piano Sonata Op.49. It's full of wit and humour and makes a great encore piece for any programme. This arrangement for Piano Quartet (Oboe, Viola, Cello, Piano) is very approachable and gives all of the instruments something of interest to play. This is a real feel-good piece which everyone will enjoy!

Originally from Glasgow, Timothy studied at the Royal College of Music, London and the Banff Centre, Canada. He was the Pianist for the Isis Piano Trio and Ballet Creations and is now in demand as an accompanist and chamber musician having performed with artists such as Dame Sarah Connolly and Tasmin Little. He has toured widely internationally and has recorded for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM as well as TV appearances in Russia and Egypt. Murray’s compositions have been recorded by The Fibbonnaci Sequence and Piers Lane among others with reviews such as ‘Corruscating’ (Independent) and ‘Highly imaginative’ (The Sunday Times).

This book has 9 songs for Lent and Easter for duet or trio vocalists. There are optional instrumental parts for either flute or violin or cello. All have parts included in the book. All have piano accompaniment as well.  There are a variety of songs with mostly songs in the public domain that I have arranged with different intros, etc. I do have an original song included as well as my version of The Lord's Prayer lyrics with a melody I composed.
