Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.802657 Composed by Ray Egan, Roy K Marsh & Paul Whiteman, and Tom Pitts. Arranged by Dudley E Bayford & Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 8 pages. Peet du Toit #6216933. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802657). This Quick-Step piece was recorded by Judy Garland in 1943 by Decca Records on her Second Souvenir album. The quickstep is a light-hearted dance of the standard ballroom dances. The movement of the dance is fast and powerfully flowing and sprinkled with syncopations. The upbeat melodies that quickstep is danced to make it suitable for both formal and informal events. Quickstep was developed in the 1920s in New York City and was first danced by Caribbean and African dancers. Its origins are in combination of slow foxtrot combined with the Charleston, a dance which was one of the precursors to what today is called swing dancing. This dance gradually evolved into a very dynamic one with much movement on the dance floor, with many advanced patterns including hops, runs, quick steps with much momentum, and rotation. The tempo of quickstep dance is rather brisk, as it was developed to ragtime era jazz music, which is fast-paced when compared to other dance music. The quickstep is elegant like the foxtrot and should be smooth and glamorous. The dancers should appear to be very light on their feet. It is very energetic and form-intensive. The quickstep is danced to 4/4 music of 48-52 measures per minute.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.734378 Composed by Haitian Folk Song. Arranged by Dennis Ruello. Folk,Jazz,Latin. 16 pages. Chicory Music #3532765. Published by Chicory Music (A0.734378). One of Oswald Durand's most famous works, the 1883 Choucoune (Yellow Bird) is a lyrical poem that praises the beauty of a Haitian woman of that nickname. Michel Mauléart Monton, an American-born pianist with a Haitian father and American mother composed music for the poem in 1893, appropriating some French and Caribbean fragments to create his tune. The song Choucoune was first performed in Port-au-Prince on 14 May , 1893. It became a popular méringue lente (slow méringue) in Haiti, and was played prominently during the bicentennial celebrations in Port-au-Prince in 1949. Choucoune was recorded by Katherine Dunham and her Ensemble for the Decca album Afro-Caribbean Songs and Rhythms released in 1946 (with the title spelled as Choucounne), and was first recorded in Haiti by Emerante (Emy) de Pradines for her Voodoo - Authentic Music of Haiti album (Remington R-199-151) released in the USA in 1953.The song also appeared in the 1957 Calypso-exploitation film Calypso Heat Wave, performed by The Tarriers, sung by the group's lead singer, Alan Arkin. This arrangement of Yellow Bird includes: Full Score, 1st and 2nd Alto Sax, 1st and 2nd Tenor Sax (2nd Tenor Opt.) , Baritone Sax plus optional Acoustic Bass and Drum Set. Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1508967 By Anthony Newley. By Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Eddie Seiler, and Sol Marcus. Arranged by Dave Gingras and John E. Dosher. Jazz,Pop,Rock. Score. 3 pages. DAVID LEE GINGRAS #1084217. Published by DAVID LEE GINGRAS (A0.1508967). I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire is a pop song written by Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Sol Marcus and Eddie Seiler. It was written in 1938, but was first recorded three years later by Harlan Leonard and His Rockets. It was covered by several musicians and groups, most successfully by Horace Heidt on Columbia Records, whose version reached number one on the US pop chart; and by The Ink Spots on Decca in 1941, whose version reached number four on the same listing. The song, with its open line I don't want to set the world on fire / I just want to start a flame in your heart... became especially popular after the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. This version features a root-based chord blocking that John and I have used in a number of our arrangements. We also added some pretty cool left-hand fills for your listening (playing?) pleasure - we hope you like what we've done to make this arrangement unique!
