“Moonglow”, Part 5 of the “Benny Goodman: Memories of You” medley

“Benny Goodman: Memories of You” is Bryan Kidd’s tribute to the big band era’s masterful “King of Swing,” Benny Goodman. This enduring medley, introduced by clarinetist Chief Musician Matt Rutkowski, was commissioned by The United States Navy Band under the direction of Captain William J. Phillips. The premiere performance was on October 22, 1992, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on the occasion of the United States Navy’s 217th Birthday Concert. For over 30 years it’s been a favorite with Navy Band clarinetists and world-wide audiences alike.

This is a professional / advanced arrangement – an experienced jazz rhythm section is required.

Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1461633

By George Cates. By Eddie De Lange, Irving Mills, and Will Hudson. Arranged by Will Corbin. Film/TV,Pop. 18 pages. Will Corbin #1040377. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1461633).

Moonglow, reports Wikipedia, has been recorded no less than 572 times on its way from 1933 band theme for Will Hudson (who composed it with Irving Mills) to jazz standard. This arrangement, for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba, is adapted from a piano version from one of those Reader's Digest compilations of old favorites.
This rendition actually opens with By The Light Of The Silvery Moon from composer Gus Edwards in 1909. It was part of a Broadway show called Miss Innocence which lasted almost an entire two weeks before it shut down. The tune was more durable. It was sung by the Three Stooges (!) in a 1933 film, and Doris Day sang it in a 1953 movie for which the song provided the title.
If you need different instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.
