The idea of arranging this piece first came to me when I attended a Folksong Arrangement class. I was tasked to think about what songs my grandparents sang to me. Que Sera, Sera, although not a folksong, was the first that came to mind. My maternal grandmother had sung this to me in my younger days.

Not long after, my grandmother announced that she intended to sell her house - the very house that I spent most of my growing-up years in. This was followed by many weeks of packing her belongings, uncovering forgotten treasures, and recalling the days of my childhood. Quite aptly, arranging this piece gave me an avenue to express my sentimental thoughts, and say goodbye to an old house filled with so many memories.

I hope that both the performer and the listener can be transported back in time, even if just for a few minutes, to reminisce the happier and more carefree days of our lives. Furthermore, let us count our blessings in the present, as the future’s not ours to see.

Que Sera, Sera. What will be, will be.

Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) is a 1955 song that was sung by Doris Day in the Alfred Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew Too Much. It is a timeless light-hearted waltz that won an Academy Award for Best Original Song. It's a song about embracing fate and accepting the uncertainty that life brings. In this String Trio arrangement - as always - we like to share the wealth and give the melody to each of the 3 instruments at different times.
