The Student should take time to memorize the tune and solo from the original recording. Where learning the harmonized parts, the metronome should be dialed back 15-30 clicks/BPM or more, until the line is fluid and able to be played up to tempo, for the best results. The transcriptions also serve as a way to work together on phrasing, unit cohesion and aiding in one's own jazz feel and understanding.
The GOAL: To form a tight nit trumpet section that compliments the lead voice(and doesn't crowed 'em), thus contributing to the overall vibe of the ensemble. In learning parts, the strategy should look like:
1. Learn the head
2. Learn the lead part (the solo)
3. Learn your part (2nd, 3rd or 4th part).
