Published by Kristine Johanek (A0.707968). Suo Gan is a well known Welsh lullaby. This two octave bell arrangement uses 15 bells and is approximately 3 minutes long. It is a step up from a beginner piece, using many 'dotted quarter - eighth' and 'eighth - dotted quarter' patterns in the rhythms. Starting with a lone melody line, it develops into a simply accompanied song with the melody repeated in the treble clef, and then in the bass clef. This gentle tune has been used for many hymns and songs beyond its roots as a lullaby. This is a reproducible product. This piece may be purchased as a score for one performing group, and copies made for the members of that one performing group. This popular Welsh tune first appeared in print c.1800, and later appeared with text by the folk scholar Robert Bryan.  It is the beauty his text that allows for this song to be programmed on many a different concert - be it Mother's Day, Christmas, in church or concert hall.  It is arranged for 4-part SATB voices to be performed a cappella but the vocal lines could be doubled with a string quartet, or brass quartet to reinforce tuning.  The duration of this arrangement is 3:10.

The well known traditional Welsh lullaby (Suo Gan) features in Steven Spielberg's epic 1987 movie Empire Of The Sun. This arrangement for string orchestra allows the tune to appear in all parts, with the exception of the bass. The cello has an attractive counter-melody at m43 after the key change, and an interesting feature of this arrangement is the independence of all the parts, especially the double bass part in relation to the cello. Because each section of the orchestra has a musically interesting part, string players will enjoy performing this arrangement. The performance duration is approximately four minutes and the full score also has the individual parts attached. .

Ideal High School student repertoire and with a performance duration of around two and a half minutes, a great recital piece. The full score has phrasing suggested and a one page clarinet part attached.
